Faker (comics)
''Faker'' is a six-issue comic book limited series that started in July 2007 by Vertigo, written by Mike Carey, art by Jock. Plot Minnesota college students Jessica, Yvonne, Marky and Sack are at a party when an ex-girlfriend of Marky's slips a bottle of "Angel's Kiss" into their drinks. Angel's Kiss turns out to be an experimental medium for liquid data storage. Shortly afterwards, a friend of the four students, Nick Philo, turns up in their dorm. After a bizarre series of events, all five come to realize that "Nick", though possessing a physical body, is not real at all, but is a creation of their minds under the influence of Angel's Kiss. The five are then abducted by the United States government, the creators of Angel's Kiss, who are now extremely interested in its potential for weapons research as well as data storage. Vertigo (DC Comics)
Vertigo Comics, also known as DC Vertigo or simply Vertigo, was an imprint of American comic book publisher DC Comics started by editor Karen Berger in 1993. Vertigo's purpose was to publish comics with adult content, such as nudity, drug use, profanity, and graphic violence, that did not fit the restrictions of DC's main line, thus allowing more creative freedom. Its titles consisted of company-owned comics set in the DC Universe, such as '' The Sandman'' and ''Hellblazer'', and creator-owned works, such as ''Preacher'', '' Y: The Last Man'' and ''Fables''. The Vertigo branding was retired in 2020, and most of its library transitioned to DC Black Label. Mike Carey (British Writer)
Mike Carey (born 1959), also known by his pen name M. R. Carey, is a British writer of comic books, novels and films, whose credits include the long-running ''The Sandman'' spin-off series ''Lucifer'', a three-year stint on ''Hellblazer'', as well as his creator-owned titles '' Crossing Midnight'' and '' The Unwritten'' for DC Comics' Vertigo imprint, a lengthy run on Marvel's ''X-Men'', the 2014 novel ''The Girl with All the Gifts'' and its 2016 film adaptation. Early life and career Carey was born in Liverpool, England, in 1959. Mark Simpson, known by the pen name Jock, is a Scottish cartoonist, best known for his work in '' 2000 AD'', '' The Losers'', and more recently ''Batman'' and ''Wolverine''. He is also known for '' Wytches'' by Image Comics. Shelly Bond
Shelly Bond ( born Roeberg) is an American comic book editor, known for her two decades at DC Comics' Vertigo (DC Comics) imprint, for which she was executive editor from 2013 to 2016. Career Bond began working in the comics industry as an editorial assistant and editor at Comico: The Comic Company where she edited E-Man. Bond was hired by Karen Berger as an assistant editor at Vertigo Comics one month after the imprint was formed. She was promoted to executive editor and vice president of Vertigo Comics in 2013, taking the place of Berger. In April 2016, DC announced that they had let Bond go after restructuring. Bond launched Black Crown, a new imprint of IDW telling stories connected to a fictional English pub, in October 2017. Black Crown was shut down by IDW in 2019. A comic book, also called comicbook, comic magazine or (in the United Kingdom and Ireland) simply comic, is a publication that consists of comics art in the form of sequential juxtaposed panels that represent individual scenes. Panels are often accompanied by descriptive prose and written narrative, usually, dialogue contained in word balloons emblematic of the comics art form. "Comic Cuts" was a British comic published from 1890 to 1953. It was preceded by "Ally Sloper's Half Holiday" (1884) which is notable for its use of sequential cartoons to unfold narrative. In the field of comic books, a limited series is a comics series with a predetermined number of issues. A limited series differs from an ongoing series in that the number of issues is finite and determined before production, and it differs from a One-shot (comics), one shot in that it is composed of multiple issues. The term is often used interchangeably with miniseries (mini-series) and maxiseries (maxi-series), usually depending on the length and number of issues. In Dark Horse Comics' definition of a limited series, "this term primarily applies to a connected series of individual comic books. A limited series refers to a comic book series with a clear beginning, middle and end". In comics in the United States, a trade paperback (shortened: TPB or trade) is a collection of stories originally published in comic books, reprinted in book format, usually presenting either a complete miniseries, a story arc from a single title, or a series of stories with an arc or common theme. A trade paperback may reproduce the stories either at the same size in which they were originally presented (in comic book format), in a smaller "digest-sized" format, or a larger-than-original hardcover. This article applies to both paperback and hardcover collections. In the comics industry, the term "trade paperback market" may refer to the market for any collection, regardless of its actual cover.
