Faith And Belief Forum
The Faith and Belief Forum, formerly known as the Three Faiths Forum (3FF), is an interfaith organisation in the United Kingdom. The organisation creates safe spaces in schools, universities, workplaces and the wider community where people can engage with questions of belief and identity and meet people different from themselves. Its programmes are intended to help change perceptions, behaviours and attitudes in a more positive direction. The charity is working towards creating a connected and supportive society where people of different faiths, beliefs and cultures have strong, productive and lasting relations. History The organisation was founded as the Three Faiths Forum in London in 1997 by Sir Sigmund Sternberg, the Revd Dr Marcus Braybrooke and Sheikh Zaki Badawi with Sidney Shipton as coordinator. Sigmund Sternberg
Sir Sigmund Sternberg ( hu, Sternberg Zsigmond; 2 June 1921 – 18 October 2016) was a Hungarian-British philanthropist, interfaith campaigner, businessman and Labour Party donor. Early life Sternberg was born in 1921 in Budapest, Hungary. He was Jewish. He emigrated to England in 1939, and was naturalised as a British citizen in 1947. Career Sternberg worked in the scrap metal trade. After the war, he founded Sternberg Group of Companies. By 1968 he retired from the scrap metal trade and focused on commercial property investments. Philanthropy Sternberg worked in promoting dialogue between different faiths. For example, he relocated a Roman Catholic convent at Auschwitz. Moreover, he organised the first papal visit to a synagogue in 1986. Additionally, he negotiated the Vatican's recognition of the state of Israel. He was a long-term Labour Party supporter and donor. Zaki Badawi
Sheikh Mohammed Aboulkhair Zaki Badawi ( ar, الشيخ محمد أبو الخير زكي بدوي), KBE, GCFO (14 January 1922 – 24 January 2006) was a prominent Egyptian Islamic scholar, community activist, and promoter of interfaith-dialogue. He was the principal of the Muslim College in London, which he founded in 1986. He also was a frequent writer and broadcaster on Islamic affairs. Early life and education Born in Egypt, Badawi trained at al-Azhar University in Cairo, gaining an undergraduate degree in Theology. He received the King Farouk First Prize for the best undergraduate student, and obtained subsequently a master's degree in Arabic Language and Literature in 1947 at the same university. He again received the King Farouk First Prize for the best postgraduate student.
