Fairview Heights (Los Angeles Metro Station)
Fairview Heights station is an at-grade light rail station on the K Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. It is located alongside Redondo Boulevard and near the intersection of Florence Avenue and West Boulevard in Inglewood but near the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. The station opened on October 7, 2022. Metro held a ceremonial ribbon cutting ceremony for the station on August 20, 2022. The station incorporates artwork by the artist Kim Schoenstadt. The Fairview Heights station will be the western trailhead of the Rail-to-Rail Route bike path. Inglewood is a city in southwestern Los Angeles County, California, in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. As of the 2020 U.S. Census, the city had a population of 107,762. Rail-to-Rail Route
The Rail-to-Rail Route is an under-construction rail-trail bike path and pedestrian trail in Los Angeles County, California. The route runs through the city of Inglewood, the city of Los Angeles neighborhoods of Hyde Park, Chesterfield Square, Harvard Park, Vermont-Slauson, South Park and Central-Alameda, and unincorporated Florence-Firestone. The route will connect Fairview Heights, Slauson station, and Slauson station. The K Line and A Line are light-rail routes; the J Line is a rapid-transit bus corridor. The path uses the Harbor Subdivision freight-train right-of-way along Slauson Avenue and Hyde Park Boulevard. The planned " active transportation corridor" will be a -wide linear park. Kia Forum (formerly The Forum) is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Inglewood, California, United States, adjacent to Los Angeles. Hollywood Park Racetrack
Hollywood Park was a thoroughbred race course located in Inglewood, California, about 3 miles (5 km) from Los Angeles International Airport and adjacent to the Forum indoor arena. In 1994, the original Hollywood Park Casino was added to the racetrack complex. Horse racing and training were shut down in December 2013 though the casino operations continued until a new state of the art casino building, the new Hollywood Park Casino, opened in October 2016. Hollywood Park Casino is a casino and sports bar in Inglewood, California. Originally part of the Hollywood Park Racetrack, the casino moved to a new building in 2016 after the closure and demolition of the racetrack in 2013. History In 1994, a casino called the Hollywood Park Casino, with a poker card room was added to the Hollywood Park Racetrack complex. The original casino owners were the Hollywood Park Operating Co., which also owned the race track. Afterward, the casino went through a series of owners including Churchill Downs. Inglewood Park Cemetery
Inglewood Park Cemetery, 720 East Florence Avenue in Inglewood, California, was founded in 1905. A number of notable people, including entertainment and sports personalities, have been interred or entombed there. History The proposed establishment of "the largest cemetery in the world" was announced in November 1905, to be "on a high strip of ground two miles southwest of Los Angeles". In 1907, a "handsome, two-story, white granite chapel" was completed at a cost of "about $40,000". Also in 1907 the management placed an order "with the factory in the East" for a $12,000 funeral car to be used "on the electric line" that ran on a right-of-way off Redondo Boulevard (today's Florence Avenue) in front of the cemetery. Aguaje De Centinela
The Aguaje de Centinela, or Centinela Springs, was a valued source of local spring water for Rancho Aguaje de la Centinela and what is now southwest Los Angeles and Inglewood in Southern California. Monuments California Historical Landmark marker 363 is located at the corner of Centinela Ave. and Florence Blvd. in the city of Inglewood, California, and is one of two monuments to the tapped-out Centinela Springs located in Edward Vincent Jr. Park (formerly Centinela Park). The older springs monument at the park dates to the Great Depression era and was designed by Archibald Garner, who also created the “Centinela Springs” mahogany wood carving for the New Deal Section of Fine Arts at the Hillcrest Avenue post office building. Edward Vincent Jr. Park is a municipal park in Inglewood, Los Angeles County, California. Kim Schoenstadt
Kim Schoenstadt is a Los Angeles based artist. She currently lives in Venice, California. Early career Schoenstadt was born in Chicago in 1973. She received her BFA from Pitzer College in Claremont, California in 1995. Schoenstadt's initial research into her art and architecture began by accident when she was waiting for buses in lobbies in Chicago. She says, "In downtown Chicago, you live with big obvious architecture, and many of the larger buildings had architectural drawings in their lobbies. The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago at the time was a very small museum run by Jan van der Marck, who used every square inch of the former ''Playboy'' offices to exhibit work – even the back stairwell had a sound installation in it by Max Neuhaus.
