Fairness West Virginia
Fairness West Virginia (Fairness WV) is the statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization for the U.S. state of West Virginia. Founded in 2009 by Stephen Skinner, the organization is currently headed by Andrew Schneider and is headquartered in downtown Charleston. Fairness WV has been at the forefront of many LGBT-related news events in West Virginia, such as aiding over a dozen towns and cities to adopt LGBT-inclusive nondiscrimination ordinances, helping transgender people execute legal name changes, lobbying for a statewide Fairness Act to bar sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination in employment, housing and public places, and rallying support for LGBT issues and causes among the state's faith communities. WBOY-TV (channel 12) is a television station licensed to Clarksburg, West Virginia, United States, serving North Central West Virginia as an affiliate of NBC and ABC. Owned by Nexstar Media Group, the station maintains studios on West Pike Street in downtown Clarksburg, and its transmitter is located east of downtown and US 50. The station identifies on-air as "Clarksburg/ Fairmont/ Morgantown" even though the third city is considered to be part of the Pittsburgh market. Despite this, WBOY-TV operates a news bureau in Morgantown which makes it the only commercial station to have facilities there. History The station was launched on November 17, 1957. Greenbrier County, West Virginia
Greenbrier County () is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 32,977. Its county seat is Lewisburg. The county was formed in 1778 from Botetourt and Montgomery counties in Virginia. History Prior to the arrival of European-American settlers around 1740, Greenbrier County, like most of West Virginia, was used as a hunting ground by the Shawnee and Cherokee nations. They called this land ''Can-tuc-kee''. Shawnee leaders, including Pucksinwah and later his son Tecumseh, were alarmed by the arrival of the European settlers, who by 1771 had set up extensive trade in the area. Stephen Baldwin (politician)
Stephen Baldwin Jr. is a former Democratic member of the West Virginia Senate, representing the 10th district from 2016 to 2022. During the 85th Legislature, Baldwin served as the Senate Minority Leader. Baldwin was the third Minority Leader since the Republicans took the majority in the Senate in 2014. Prior to his appointment to the State Senate, Baldwin represented the 42nd District in the West Virginia House of Delegates, and was a member of the Greenbrier County Board of Education. In 2022, Baldwin lost re-election to Vince Deeds, becoming one of only two state legislative leaders to lose re-election in 2022. Brooke County is a county in the Northern Panhandle of the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,559. Its county seat is Wellsburg. The county was created in 1797 from part of Ohio County and named in honor of Robert Brooke, Governor of Virginia from 1794 to 1796. Ryan Weld
Ryan William Weld (born May 19, 1980) is a Republican member of the West Virginia Senate for the 1st district. He previously served in the West Virginia House of Delegates. He was appointed whip in 2017. Biography Weld was born in Wellsburg, West Virginia, where he still resides. He graduated from Fairmont State University in 2003. Weld is a prosecuting attorney and Captain in the Air Force Reserve. Weld was elected to the House of Delegates in 2014, defeating incumbent Phil Diserio. Kanawha County ( ) is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 180,745, making it West Virginia's most populous county. Tom Takubo is a Republican member of the West Virginia Senate, representing the 17th district since January 14, 2015. Takubo also serves as Majority Leader of the West Virginia Senate, succeeding Ryan Ferns who was defeated in the 2018 West Virginia Senate election. Employment Non-Discrimination Act
The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) is legislation proposed in the United States Congress that would prohibit discrimination in hiring and employment on the basis of sexual orientation or, depending on the version of the bill, gender identity, by employers with at least 15 employees. ENDA has been introduced in every Congress since 1994 except the 109th. Similar legislation has been introduced without passage since 1974. The bill gained its best chance at passing after the Democratic Party gained the majority after twelve years of Republican majorities in the 2006 midterm elections. In 2007, gender identity protections were added to the legislation for the first time. The West Virginia Senate is the upper house of the West Virginia Legislature. There are seventeen senatorial districts. Each district has two senators who serve staggered four-year terms.
