Fairlop
Fairlop is a district in the north of Ilford, part of the London Borough of Redbridge in east London. The district consists of fields, forestry and open land providing space for sport/ activity centres (Redbridge Sport Centre), some houses, farmland and watersport/fishing lakes (Fairlop Waters). It also has a tube station. The western part of the district forms the eastern edge of Barkingside High Street shopping district, and simultaneously borders Claybury Park, which used to be home to Claybury Hospital. Its location is west of Barkingside and Fullwell Cross, north of Aldborough Hatch, south of Hainault and (distantly) west from Marks Gate and Collier Row. It is 3 miles from Ilford town centre. Hainault Loop
The Hainault Loop was originally opened as the Fairlop Loop, a branch line of the Great Eastern Railway (GER). It once connected Woodford on the Ongar (now Epping) branch to Ilford on the Main Line, with an eastward connection for goods, excursions and stock transfers to Seven Kings. The loop opened to freight on 20 April 1903 and to passengers on 1 May 1903. In 1923, the GER was "grouped" into the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER), who provided passenger services until December 1947. After this date, the route was electrified for London Underground services from both the Woodford and Leytonstone directions (the latter via a pair of new tube tunnels), the link to Ilford (and, eventually, Seven Kings) closed, and today it forms the greater part of the Hainault Loop on the Central line, having been served by Tube trains since 1948 (Woodford and Newbury Park stations being served by December 1947). Aldborough Hatch
Aldborough Hatch is an area in Ilford in east London, England, within the London Borough of Redbridge. It is located east-northeast of Charing Cross. It is a semi-rural locality situated to the east of Barkingside and Newbury Park. Aldborough is also a ward in the London Borough of Redbridge. The population at the 2011 Census was 14,544. Toponymy and history The name probably derives from the Alborgh or Albourgh family who occupied the manor in the Middle Ages and are mentioned in 14th and 15th century records. 'Hatch' derives from the Old English word ''hæcc'' ('a hatch gate'), which originally gave access to Hainault Forest when it stood here. Central Line (London Underground)
The Central line is a London Underground line that runs through central London, from , Essex, in the north-east to and in west London. The area is situated 10.6 miles (17km) north east of Charing Cross. Barkingside is chiefly known for the children's charity Barnardo's, which was founded there in 1866, and still has its headquarters there. Some of the oldest buildings in Barkingside include the Barnardo's chapel, the underground station, which was originally an Edwardian railway station, and Holy Trinity Church, which dates from 1840. London Borough Of Redbridge
The London Borough of Redbridge is a London borough established in 1965. The borough shares boundaries with the Epping Forest District and the ceremonial county of Essex to the north, with the London Borough of Waltham Forest to the west, the London Borough of Havering to the east, the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham in the south and east, and the London Borough of Newham to the south. The principal settlements in the borough are Ilford, Wanstead, and Woodford. Etymology The name comes from a bridge over the River Roding which was demolished in 1921. Ilford North is a constituency created in 1945 and represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2015 by Wes Streeting of the Labour Party. History The seat was created for the 1945 general election, from the northern part of the former Ilford seat. Constituency profile All districts are suburban but interspersed with many parks and a few small nature reserves and are connected to Central London by the Central line (London Underground) which forms an end loop around Hainault tube station. Hainault, London
Hainault (, ) is a large suburban housing estate in north-eastern Greater London in the London Borough of Redbridge. It is located northeast of Charing Cross. Most of the housing in Hainault was built by the London County Council between 1947 and 1953. Originally spanning the parishes of Chigwell, Dagenham and Ilford, in 1965 the area was combined in a single London borough and became part of Greater London. It is adjacent to the Metropolitan Green Belt, bordered on the east by Hainault Forest Country Park and to the north by open land and the boundary with the Epping Forest District of Essex. Great Eastern Railway
The Great Eastern Railway (GER) was a pre-grouping British railway company, whose main line linked London Liverpool Street to Norwich and which had other lines through East Anglia. The company was grouped into the London and North Eastern Railway in 1923. Formed in 1862 after the amalgamation of the Eastern Counties Railway and several other smaller railway companies the GER served Cambridge, Chelmsford, Colchester, Great Yarmouth, Ipswich, King's Lynn, Lowestoft, Norwich, Southend-on-Sea (opened by the GER in 1889), and East Anglian seaside resorts such as Hunstanton (whose prosperity was largely a result of the GER's line being built) and Cromer.
