Fairleigh Stanton Dickinson Jr. (December 9, 1919 – October 12, 1996) was an American Republican Party politician who served as a member of the New Jersey Senate from 1968 to 1971. Early life and education He was born in Rutherford, the son of Fairleigh S. Dickinson and Grace Smith Dickinson (1887–1973). A 1937 graduate of Montclair Kimberley Academy, Dickinson was recognized by the school in 1965 with its Outstanding Alumnus Award. Dickinson graduated from New York Military Academy and from Williams College. He served as a lieutenant commander in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. New Jersey Senate
The New Jersey Senate was established as the upper house of the New Jersey Legislature by the Constitution of 1844, replacing the Legislative Council. There are 40 legislative districts, representing districts with an average population of 232,225 (2020 figure). Each district has one senator and two members of the New Jersey General Assembly, the lower house of the legislature. Prior to the election in which they are chosen, senators must be a minimum of 30 years old and a resident of the state for four years to be eligible to serve in office. From 1844 until 1965 (when the ''Reynolds v. Sims'' US Supreme Court decision mandated all state legislators be elected from districts of roughly equal population), each county was an electoral district electing one senator. David Stout
David Stout (May 13, 1942 – February 11, 2020) was a journalist and author of mystery novels, two of which have been turned into TV movies, and of non-fiction about violent crime. For his first novel, ''Carolina Skeletons'', he won the Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best First Novel. Career as journalist Stout obtained a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Notre Dame in 1964, and a master's in English literature from Buffalo State College in 1970. His early work as journalist was for '' The Erie Daily Times'', '' The Buffalo Evening News'', and '' The Record of Hackensack'' in northern New Jersey. In 1982, Stout went to work for ''The New York Times'', where he continued to work both as reporter and editor. Edgartown Harbor Light
Edgartown Harbor Light is a lighthouse located in Edgartown, Massachusetts, United States, where it marks the entrance to Edgartown Harbor and Katama Bay. It is one of five lighthouses on the island of Martha's Vineyard. The first lighthouse, a two-story wooden structure that also served as the keeper's house, was constructed in 1828. It was demolished, and replaced by the current cast-iron tower, in 1939. East Chop Light
East Chop Light is a historic lighthouse standing on a bluff overlooking Vineyard Haven Harbor and Vineyard Sound, located along East Chop Drive in the town of Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts. It is one of five lighthouses located on the island of Martha's Vineyard. Early history The East Chop Light was built in 1878 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. In the early 1800s the location was occupied by a semaphore station - thus the origin of the name "Telegraph Hill." Circa 1869 a marine merchant named Captain Silas Daggett constructed a privately owned lighthouse on the property. To pay for construction and maintenance, Daggett collected fees from local merchants, maritime insurance agencies, and ship owners who benefited from the light as an aid-to-navigation.
