Fairlawne Handicap Chase
The Fairlawne Handicap Chase, currently run under the sponsored title of the Paddy Power New Year's Day Handicap Chase, is a Grade 3 National Hunt Steeplechase (horse racing), steeplechase in Great Britain which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run on the New Course at Cheltenham Racecourse, Cheltenham over a distance of about 2 miles and 4½ furlongs (2 miles 4 furlongs and 127 yards, or 4,139 metres) and during its running there are 17 fences to be jumped. It is a Handicap (horse racing), handicap race, and is scheduled to take place each year on New Year's Day. The race was first run in 1990 as the Cleeve Hill Handicap Chase and was awarded Grade 3 status in 2009. From 2014 the race became officially known as the Fairlawne Chase, a name previously associated with a Fairlawne Chase (Windsor), three-mile conditions chase run at Windsor until 1997. Paul Nicholls (horse Racing)
Paul Frank Nicholls (born 17 April 1962) is a British National Hunt horse trainer with stables at Ditcheat, Somerset. A relatively successful jump jockey, Nicholls has become the leading National Hunt trainer of his generation, finishing the 2007–08 season with 155 winners and a record £4 million in prize money. To date, he has trained over 3000 winners, won the 2012 Grand National, four Cheltenham Gold Cups and has been crowned British jump racing Champion Trainer thirteen times. Philip Hobbs (born 26 July 1955) is a British racehorse trainer specializing mainly in National Hunt racing. He is based at stables near Minehead, Somerset. His biggest wins have come with Flagship Uberalles in the 2002 Queen Mother Champion Chase, Rooster Booster in the 2003 Champion Hurdle, Detroit City in the 2006 Triumph Hurdle and Massini's Maguire in the 2007 Ballymore Properties Novices' Hurdle. Richard Johnson (jockey)
Richard Johnson (born 21 July 1977 in Hereford) is a retired English National Hunt jockey. Johnson is the second most prolific winner in the history of National Hunt Racing behind Sir Anthony McCoy, a long-time rival of Johnson's, with over 3500 winners. Richard Dunwoody previously held the record with 1874. Johnson holds the record for the most appearances in the Grand National and also the record for the most rides in the race without a victory. Sam Twiston-Davies is a British National Hunt racing jockey. He was the retained jockey of ten-times British jump racing Champion Trainer Paul Nicholls. Henrietta Knight (racehorse Trainer)
Henrietta Catherine Knight (born 15 December 1946) is a retired English Thoroughbred racehorse trainer. Knight is best known as a trainer of National Hunt racehorses. She is the daughter of Major Hubert Guy Broughton Knight (1917–1993) and Hester Loyd. Her sister, Celia Elizabeth Knight (1949–2020), was married to Samuel Vestey, 3rd Baron Vestey. An Oxford graduate, Knight formerly worked as a teacher of biology and history before becoming a trainer. She was a prominent figure in the equestrian sport of eventing, finishing 12th at the Badminton Horse Trials in 1973, and becoming the chairperson of the British Olympic Games Horse Trials Selection Committee from 1984 to 1988. Paddy Brennan (jockey)
Paddy Brennan (born 13 April 1981) is an Irish jump jockey. He was champion conditional jockey in the 2004/05 season and won the 2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup on Imperial Commander. As of 2021 he is based in Gloucestershire, where he is stable jockey at Fergal O'Brien's yard. Sir Anthony Peter McCoy (born 4 May 1974), commonly known as AP McCoy or Tony McCoy, is a Northern Irish former National Hunt horse racing jockey. Aidan Coleman
Aidan Coleman (born 17 August 1988) is an Irish National Hunt jockey, who has ridden multiple Grade 1 winners in the United Kingdom including at the Cheltenham Festival. Career Coleman was born in Cork, Ireland and moved to England in 2006 working for trainer Henrietta Knight. His first ride was in December of the same year, finishing 9th at Hereford riding Silverbar. His first victory came the following year onboard Tashkandi at Uttoxeter. Coleman would switch to being the retained jockey with Venetia Williams, and won the 2008/09 champion conditional jockey championship with 55 winners.
