Fairlane Village Mall
Fairlane Village Mall is a shopping mall located just outside of Pottsville, Pennsylvania off Pennsylvania Route 61, Route 61. It is anchored by Boscov's, Dunham's Sports, Kohl's, Michaels, and TJ Maxx. History Development of the mall was delayed by earth moving operations and the discovery of coal. Fairlane Village was built on property owned by the Seitzinger Brothers, with its name coming from the Ford Fairlane (Americas), Ford Fairlane car. The mall opened with anchors Boscov's, McCrory Stores, McCrory, and Woolco. Gee Bee (store), Gee Bee opened at the mall in 1983 and was later replaced by Value City in 1993. Boscov's outside tent collapsed due to inclement weather in July 1986, with only light injuries occurring. In 1995, the Boscov's store was heavily reconstructed. Norwegian Township is a township in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,167 at the 2020 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 5.9 square miles (15.4 km), of which 5.8 square miles (15.1 km) is land and 0.1 square mile (0.2 km) (1.52%) is water. Cressona Mall is a shopping mall in Pottsville, Pennsylvania off Route 61 and Route 183. History Cressona Mall opened on October 2, 1973, with Hills as its anchor. Laneco had plans to open a store at the mall in early 1982, using the former Grant's space. Due to the store being sold, Acme was rebranded Insalacos in January 1995. Laneco closed at the mall in March 1995. Hills expanded its store and Staples opened at the mall in 1996. The Surgery Center of Pottsville opened in 2006. The Cressona Mall in 2007-2008 received exterior renovations. Alvernia University opened a satellite campus in 2009, using former office and store space. Schuylkill Mall was an shopping mall located in Frackville, Pennsylvania. Built in 1980 by Crown American, the mall originally featured Kmart, Hess's, and Sears as its anchor stores; later additions to the mall included Pomeroy's (which was later bought out by The Bon-Ton) and Phar-Mor. In its day, it was one of the largest shopping malls in the state of Pennsylvania. After losing numerous tenants throughout the 2000s and 2010s with the decline in regional economy and residents, the mall had become increasingly vacant. As of 2017, only Dunham's Sports remained as a major anchor tenant. It closed December 31, 2017, relocating to Pottsville's Fairlane Village Mall, where it reopened on December 7, 2018. Gertrude Hawk Chocolates is a chocolate company based in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. The company was started by Gertrude Jones Hawk in 1936. Hawk began her career at the age of 12 after the death of her father. She took a job in a candy shop and later began making chocolates in the kitchen of her home in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
