Fairbridge Festival
The Fairbridge Festival is a music festival held annually since 1993 at Fairbridge village near Pinjarra in Western Australia. The festival is held over a weekend in April. Visitors staying for the whole weekend can camp in the surrounding fields in tents or vans. The festival offers options for those who don't have their own camping equipment in the form of "Cosy Camping" and "Glamping". Day tickets are also available. The event takes place over three days and three nights (Friday to Sunday), across 12 stages, which include marquees, a chapel, dance stage and workshop rooms. The program features a variety of musical genres such as blues, roots, Celtic, folk, dance, a cappella and world music as well as acts and activities specifically catering for children and young people. Fairbridge Festival has experienced steady audience growth with the 2016 tally of about 15,000 day attendees. Fairbridge, Western Australia
Fairbridge, Western Australia is a former farm school near Pinjarra in Southwest Western Australia. It is now used predominantly for education, school and community camps and tourism purposes. History On 15 April 1912, Kingsley Fairbridge and his wife, Ruby Fairbridge, arrived in Albany, Western Australia, from England and made their way to Pinjarra, arriving on 16 July that same year to establish the world's first Fairbridge Farm School. The school opened on 19 October 1912. Kingsley wanted to see "little children shedding the bondage of unfortunate circumstances and stretching their legs and minds amid the thousand interests of the farm." Child migration From 1913 to 1982, Fairbridge Farm School was home to a total of 3,580 children who came to Fairbridge under various child migration schemes. Bruce Mathiske
Bruce Mathiske is a Newcastle Australia-based virtuoso solo guitarist who has released 17 plus albums. Mathiske has studied both jazz and classical music. His large finger span enables him to play Rhythm Lead and bass at the same time, giving the impression that more than one person is playing guitar. Personal life He was born in 1963 and hails from Swan Hill. At the age of seven, he started studying music, and he has continued to do so throughout his life. At the age of fifteen, he relocated to Bendigo, where he studied classical guitar. He would practice for up to ten hours a day. When he was 18, he was accidentally shot whilst out spotlighting. Doug de Vries (born 26 July 1960) is an Australian guitarist working in Melbourne, Victoria. He studied jazz guitar with Bruce Clarke and classical guitar under Jochen Schubert and began playing professionally at the age of 18. He undertook a degree in Music at La Trobe University between 1983 and 1987 joining the Australian Jazz Orchestra a year later. de Vries performs in a variety of styles including jazz, choro, tango and bossa nova and is Australia's leading exponent of the Brazilian guitar repertoire. Liz Stringer is an Australian singer-songwriter, based in Melbourne, Victoria. As of April 2021, Stringer has released six studio albums, a live album and two extended plays. Since 2013 she has released with Mia Dyson and Jen Cloher music under the name Dyson Stringer Cloher. Career Stringer's debut studio album was released in 2006. Jarlath Henderson
Jarlath Henderson (born 1986) is a Northern Irish folk musician. He is best known as an Uilleann piper and singer but also plays the guitar and flute. He was the youngest winner of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award in 2003. Through his career, he has worked with bands and musicians such as Lau, Capercaillie, Julie Fowlis, Michael McGoldrick, Paddy Keenan, Salsa Celtica, Phil Cunningham, Buille, Dougie Maclean and Jack Bruce. Kingsley Ogilvie Fairbridge (5 May 1885 – 19 July 1924) was the founder of a child migration, child emigration scheme from Britain to British Empire, its colonies and the Fairbridge Schools.
