The Fairbanks Grizzlies were a professional indoor football team based in Fairbanks, Alaska. The team was a member of the Pacific Division of the Intense Conference in the Indoor Football League (IFL). The Grizzlies began play in 2008 as a member of the Intense Football League and joined the IFL in 2008 as part of the Intense Football League and United Indoor Football (UIF) merger. The team played their home games at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks. The Grizzlies were notable for being the northernmost professional gridiron football team in history; the Alaska Wild held the previous record, and before that, the Edmonton Eskimos. Grizzlies games were broadcast live on KCBF. (The northernmost gridiron football team of any sort is the high school football team of Barrow High School.) Carlson Center
The Carlson Center is a 4,595-seat multi-purpose arena in Fairbanks, Alaska, United States. It is the third largest arena in Alaska by seating capacity after the Sullivan Arena and Alaska Airlines Center, both of which are in Anchorage. It is home to the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks ice hockey team of the WCHA and also serves as the site for the university's commencement exercises as well as graduation ceremonies for Lathrop, West Valley, and North Pole High Schools. The building served as the site for the Top Of The World preseason college basketball tournament until its demise in 2007. Opening in 1990, the venue is named after John A. The Billings Outlaws were a professional league indoor football team based in Billings, Montana. They were a member of the Indoor Football League (IFL), of which they were the 2-time defending champions. They played their home games at Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark. Their games were broadcast live locally on News Talk 910 KBLG AM and online through Teamline. Seasons 2000–2001 seasons The team originally began play as a 2000 expansion member of the Indoor Football League as the Billings Thunderbolts. Despite a winning record of 8-6, it was not enough to make the playoffs. Barrow High School is a public high school in Utqiaġvik (formerly Barrow), Alaska, United States, operated by the North Slope Borough School District. As of the 2016–2017 school year, the school had 232 students. Athletics Football A high school football team was established at the school in 2006. It is the only known American football team to have its home field north of the Arctic Circle. KCBF
KCBF (820 AM broadcasting, AM) is a commercial radio station airing sports radio, sports programming in Fairbanks, Alaska. KCBF obtains its programming from ESPN Radio. It signed on in 1948 as KFRB on 1290 kHz. It moved to 790 kHz in 1953 then to 900 kHz in 1954. It moved to its current frequency in 1981. KCBF is the exclusive radio home to University of Alaska Nanooks hockey. The station also serves coverage of the Nanooks' men's and select women's basketball games. It was also the former radio home of Fairbanks Grizzlies football.
