Fair Oaks Avenue
Fair Oaks Avenue in Pasadena, California, is a major north–south road connecting the communities of Altadena, Pasadena, and South Pasadena, running in length. It starts at its southernmost end in South Pasadena at Huntington Drive. It travels due north to a terminus above Loma Alta Avenue in Altadena and the gates of Angelus County Park. Beyond this, the road becomes a private easement. At its meeting of Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena the two roads become the zero-zero, east–west, north–south postal division of Pasadena which carries on into Altadena. In South Pasadena, the street numbering varies with its own postal zip code. History Fair Oaks is one of the major roads developed by the Indiana Colony dating back to 1874. South Pasadena Local was a local streetcar line operated by the Pacific Electric Railway between Downtown Los Angeles and South Pasadena, California by way of the Arroyo Seco Route. This was one of four lines that connected the two cities. Route The South Pasadena Line originated at the Pacific Electric Building in downtown Los Angeles. The double-track railway exited the station on to Main Street and ran in the pavement of city streets: north on Main Street, east on 1st Street, north on Los Angeles Street and east on Aliso Street to the Los Angeles River. The line crossed the river and Mission Road on the Aliso Street Viaduct and ran east in a private right of way (that by 1981 had been obliterated by construction of the San Bernardino Freeway) to Echandia Junction. The Los Angeles Conservancy is a historic preservation organization in Los Angeles, California. It works to document, rescue and revitalize historic buildings, places and neighborhoods in the city. The Conservancy is the largest membership based historic preservation organization in the country. The group was formed in 1978 to preserve Los Angeles Central Library, which was threatened with demolition. The organization has over 7000 members and 400 volunteers. Old Pasadena, often referred to as Old Town Pasadena or just Old Town, is the original commercial center of Pasadena, a city in California, United States, and had a latter-day revitalization after a period of decay.
