Fagen Fighters WWII Museum
The Fagen Fighters WWII Museum is an aviation museum located in Granite Falls, Minnesota. The museum is made up of three display hangars, a restoration hangar, a reproduction Quonset hut, and a reproduction control tower. History The origins of the museum lie in the establishment of Fagen Fighters Restoration in 1998. However, the museum itself was only founded in 2012. In 2017, the museum purchased a collection of spare parts that belonged to Jay Wisler. Granite Falls, Minnesota
Granite Falls is a city located mostly in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, of which it is the county seat with a small portion in Chippewa County, Minnesota. The population was 2,737 at the 2020 census. The Andrew John Volstead House, a National Historic Landmark, is located in Granite Falls. History Granite Falls was platted in 1872. The city was named for deposits of granite rock in the area. A post office has been in operation at Granite Falls since 1870. Granite Falls was incorporated as a city in 1879 with East Granite Falls joining in 1889. 2000 tornado On July 25, 2000, the city of Granite Falls and Yellow Medicine County were hit by a powerful tornado. The tornado first touched down in rural parts of the county west-northwest of Granite Falls, hitting the city at 6:10 pm. After tearing through the residential sections of town, the tornado lifted at approximately 6:25PM after being on the ground for over nine miles. Vultee BT-13 Valiant
The Vultee BT-13 Valiant is an American World War II-era basic (a category between primary and advanced) trainer aircraft built by Vultee Aircraft for the United States Army Air Corps, and later US Army Air Forces. A subsequent variant of the BT-13 in USAAC/USAAF service was known as the BT-15 Valiant, while an identical version for the US Navy was known as the SNV and was used to train naval aviators for the US Navy and its sister services, the US Marine Corps and US Coast Guard. Design and development The Vultee BT-13 was the basic trainer flown by most American pilots during World War II. It was the second phase of the three phase training program for pilots. After primary training in PT-13, PT-17, or PT-19 trainers, the student pilot moved to the more complex Vultee for continued flight training.
