Faded (Zhu Song)
"Faded" is the debut single by American electronic musician Zhu. An extended play of remixes was released on June 29, 2014. "Faded" peaked at number one on the US Dance chart. One of the first radio stations to pick up "Faded", the alternative music orientated station Triple J, gave the song significant airplay which was responsible for its success in Australia. Subsequent to its success on Triple J, more mainstream stations began to play it, giving the song a larger audience. Eventually, "Faded" gained momentum internationally, becoming a club hit largely thanks to its initial success on Triple J. A black-and-white music video for the song was released on May 6, 2014. Zhu (musician)
Steven Zhu, known mononymously as Zhu (; stylized in all caps; born April 28, 1989), is an American electronic music producer and singer who has been active since the beginning of 2014, signed to Mind of a Genius Records. Until mid-2014, Zhu remained anonymous, asking to be judged by his music alone. His debut album, '' Generationwhy'', was released on July 29, 2016 and first premiered at Coachella during his closing set in the Sahara Tent. Zhu's Coachella performance was praised, with a writer for the '' New York Observer'' suggesting that he could be "the next Daft Punk". Early life Zhu is of Chinese heritage and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. He played in jazz bands and orchestral practices at school, and later studied music during college. Stephen James Philibin (born April 11, 1998), better known by his stage name Steve James, is an American record producer, songwriter and DJ. Career Steve James was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He began learning the piano at the age of four, classically trained. He was introduced to progressive house music by his brother and was inspired to pursue electronic music production after seeing Avicii live, at the age of 14. James began experimenting with Ableton at age 15 and found early success with his remix of ZHU's "Faded," which was the top remix of 2014 on Sirius XM's BPM Station. In the summer of 2015, James took a trip to Los Angeles, California and was introduced to Jason Boyd (Poo Bear).
