Fade To Grey – The Singles Collection
''Fade to Grey: The Singles Collection'' is a 1983 compilation album by the British synth-pop group Visage. Background Released as a stop-gap between studio albums whilst the band was experiencing contractual difficulties, the compilation includes all of the Visage singles released up to that point (five of them UK Top 30 hits), the majority taken from their first two albums '' Visage'' (1980) and '' The Anvil'' (1982), as well as a couple of non-single tracks. The cassette version was released as a Special Dance Mix Cassette, featuring remixes as well as a bonus track, "Der Amboss" (a German-language version of the song "The Anvil").This version was also available on limited vinyl with a red rim around the outer sleeve instead of blue. In British HMV stores, a limited number of copies of the album and cassette were issued with a free 7" vinyl picture disc of the " Pleasure Boys" single from 1982. Visage (band)
Visage were a British synthpop band, formed in London in 1978. The band became closely linked to the burgeoning New Romantic fashion movement of the early 1980s, and are best known for their hit " Fade to Grey" which was released in late 1980. In the UK, the band achieved two Top 20 albums ('' Visage'' and '' The Anvil'') and five Top 30 singles before the commercial failure of their third album (''Beat Boy'') led to their break-up in 1985. The band has seen various line-up changes over the years, all fronted by vocalist Steve Strange, who resurrected the band name in the 2000s. In 2013, the most recent line-up of the band released ''Hearts and Knives'', the first new Visage album in 29 years. The band's fifth and final album, ''Demons to Diamonds'', was released in 2015, nine months after Strange had died following a heart attack. Night Train (Visage Song)
"Night Train" is the sixth single by the British pop group Visage, released by Polydor Records in June 1982. Background The song was the second single from the band's album '' The Anvil''. It was remixed for the single release with the assistance of John Luongo, and also available as a limited edition picture disc. The B-side of the single is a non-album track, "I'm Still Searching". This song was not available on any digital format until 2008 when a re-issue of ''The Anvil'' was released by Cherry Red Records. "Night Train" and "Whispers" (another track from ''The Anvil''), were used in Japanese adverts for TDK tapes in 1982. "In the Year 2525 (Exordium & Terminus)" is a 1969 hit song by the American pop-rock duo of Zager and Evans. It reached number one on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 for six weeks commencing July 12, 1969. It peaked at number one in the UK Singles Chart for three weeks in August and September that year. The song was written and composed by Rick Evans in 1964 and originally released on a small regional record label (Truth Records) in 1968. It was later picked up by RCA Records. Tar (song)
"Tar" is the debut single by the British pop group Visage, released in 1979. Background "Tar" was the band's sole release on Radar Records in November 1979, before they signed to Polydor Records the following year. The song's lyrics are centred on the habit of smoking cigarettes. As Steve Strange put it in his autobiography, the song is about "the pleasure and pain of nicotine". The B-side to the single is "Frequency 7", a rapid synthesizer composition with vocoder vocals. (An extended, instrumental "Dance Mix" of the song was released on the " Mind of a Toy" single in 1981. Both versions were re-released by the band in 2013). "Tar" was not a chart hit, and Radar's distribution deal collapsed shortly after the single was released. "Visage" is the fourth single by the British pop group Visage, released by Polydor Records in July 1981. It is the title track from Visage's eponymous debut album. The single peaked at no.21 in the UK Singles Chart. Cover and music video In the UK, the single was available in three different covers, each featuring vocalist Steve Strange, by photographers John Timbers, Robyn Beeche and Brian Griffin. The music video for the single was the first of two Visage videos directed by Midge Ure. The video includes footage shot at the Blitz nightclub in London's Covent Garden, which was the focal point of the New Romantic scene in the early 1980s. It was included on the '' Visage'' video album in 1986. A then-unknown Jacquie O'Sullivan (who would join Bananarama in the late 80's) appears briefly at the beginning of the video as one of The Blitz's customers on the bar counter. Rusty Egan
Rusty Egan (born 19 September 1957 in London) is the former drummer for the British new wave band Rich Kids. They were founded by former Sex Pistol Glen Matlock (bass guitarist and backing vocals, occasional lead vocals), with Steve New (guitarist and backing vocals, occasional lead vocals) and fronted by Jim Midge Ure (guitarist, lead vocals and occasional backing vocals and keyboards player), from their inception in March 1977 to their disbanding in December 1978. John McGeoch
John Alexander McGeoch (25 August 1955 – 4 March 2004) was a Scottish musician and songwriter. He is best known as the guitarist of the rock bands Magazine (1977-1980) and Siouxsie and the Banshees (1980-1982). He has been described as one of the most influential guitarists of his generation. In 1996 he was listed by ''Mojo'' in their "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" for his work on the Siouxsie and the Banshees song " Spellbound".
