The University of Cape Verde ( pt, Universidade de Cabo Verde, abbreviated "Uni-CVV") is the only public university of Cape Verde. The main campus is in Palmarejo, Praia, but there are also institutes in Mindelo, Assomada and São Jorge dos Órgãos. It has over 5000 students. A new campus for Uni-CV is under construction in Palmarejo, financed by the Chinese government. It should be completed by July 2020. It will have capacity for 4,890 students and 476 professors, with a library, dorms, cafeterias and sports facilities. It will have 61 class rooms, five auditoriums with a capacity of 150 seats, eight computer rooms, eight reading rooms and 34 laboratories. From 2011 to 2016, he was the Capeverdean Minister of Culture. Biography Childhood and teenage years He was born Lúcio Matias de Sousa Mendes in the town of Tarrafal in the island of Santiago's north in the final decade of Portuguese rule, he is a descendant of Jorge and Garda Brito. Mário Lúcio lost his father when he was 12. At age 15, he and his seven siblings lost his mother. He lived in the barrack buildings of the Cape Verdean forces in his hometown under the care of the military. The Universidade de Santiago (abbreviation: US) is a private Cape Verdean university. The main campus is in Assomada (subdivision Bolanha), located in the middle of the Island of Santiago. There are two satellite campuses, one in Praia (subdivision Prainha) and another one in Tarrafal. It is one of the eight existing universities in Cape Verde; it was established on November 24, 2008. Maria Baptista Soares (born November 15, 1928) is a Cape Verdean sociologist and a political activist. She took part mainly for her work on different communities of peripherical and polemic theme especially on subaltern and neocolonialism. An urban sociologist, she wrote on social relations in the fringes of globalization with the same rigor which it defends the creation of a territorial identity and partly on the fortification of horizontalities. Manuel Veiga (born 27 March 1948) is a Cape Verdean writer, a linguist with references in the national and international level and a politician. He was minister of culture of his country from 2004 to 2011. As a specialist he did the largest studies and works of appreciation of the Cape Verdean Creole, an Upper Guinean form of Portuguese Creole. He was born in Santa Catarina on the island of Santiago. João Lopes Filho (born c. 1943) is a Cape Verdean anthropologist, historian, university professor, novelist and an investigator. A specialist in the largest studies and works of appreciation of the Cape Verdean Creole, a Central-Western Atlantic African Creole, he was born in Santa Catarina in Santiago. He is the main investigator in anthropology and ethnology in the country, he was one of the most awarded professors in the country, he had written about thirty works. Silvino Lopes Évora is a Cape Verdean writer, poet, journalist and a university professor. Biography He was born in the village of Chão Bom nearly south of Tarrafal, he later attended primary school and a preparatory cycle. He achieved secondary education at Liceu de Santa Catarina in Assomada. Later, he went to the city of Praia after he finished his twelfth year of school. He finished with student licenses.
