Face Recognition Grand Challenge
250px The Face Recognition Grand Challenge (FRGC) was conducted from May 2004 until March 2006 in an effort to promote and advance face recognition technology. It was the successor of the Face Recognition Vendor Test. Overview The primary goal of the FRGC was to promote and advance face recognition technology designed to support existing face recognition efforts in the U.S. Government. FRGC developed new face recognition techniques and prototype systems and increased performance by an order of magnitude. The FRGC was open to face recognition researchers and developers in companies, academia, and research institutions. FRGC ran from May 2004 to March 2006. A facial recognition system is a technology capable of matching a human face from a digital image or a video frame against a database of faces. Such a system is typically employed to authenticate users through ID verification services, and works by pinpointing and measuring facial features from a given image. Development began on similar systems in the 1960s, beginning as a form of computer application. The Technical Support Working Group (TSWG) is a United States Interagency program for research and development into combating terrorism measures.
