''Fabulous Funnies'' is a 1978–1979 American animated children's show produced for Saturday morning television by Filmation. The show aired for one season from September 9, 1978, to December 1, 1978, on NBC, airing 13 episodes. The show was an anthology of stories based on American comic strips, including '' Broom Hilda'', ''Alley Oop'', '' The Captain and the Kids'', '' Nancy'', ''Emmy Lou'' and (for one episode) ''Tumbleweeds''. The character designs closely mimicked the comic strips, so the animators had to animate in several different styles for the program. It was noted by critics that the show's comic potential was blunted by NBC's demand that the show promote pro-social messages for the child audience. This was especially noticeable when rowdy characters like the Katzenjammer Kids were obliged to spread messages of politeness and restraint. Lou Scheimer
Louis Scheimer (October 19, 1928 – October 17, 2013) was an American producer and voice actor who was one of the original founders of Filmation. He was also credited as an executive producer of many of its cartoons. Early life and education Scheimer was the son of a German Jew who, according to family legend, had to leave Germany in the early 1920s after punching a young Adolf Hitler in 1921 or 1922, "well before" the Beer Hall Putsch. Scheimer graduated from Carnegie Tech University (now Carnegie Mellon University) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a bachelor's degree in fine arts in 1952. Career Early in Filmation's history, Scheimer also contributed a number of guest or secondary voices for the various productions. Among these was the voice of N'kima, Tarzan's monkey companion in ''Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle'' (1976–81). Garfield is a fictional cat and the protagonist of the comic strip of the same name, created by Jim Davis. The comic strip centers on Garfield, portrayed as a lazy, fat, and cynical orange tabby Persian cat. Bob Holt (actor)
Robert John Holthaus (December 28, 1928 – August 2, 1985), better known as Bob Holt, was an American actor, best known for his voice work. Career Holt's first film role came in 1950, acting as Octavius Caesar in ''Julius Caesar''. His career as a voice artist began with the 1968 short film ''Johnny Learns His Manners'', for which he provided all of the voices. He later appeared in such works as ''Bedknobs and Broomsticks'', several animated television specials with Dr. Seuss, for example, The Lorax (1972) and Hoober Bloob Highway (1975), and the animated film version of '' Charlotte's Web'' as Homer Zuckerman.
