Ali B (DJ)
Alistair Bennett, professionally known as Ali B, is an English disc jockey, radio presenter and producer. He is a former resident DJ at Fabric in London and is the owner of Air Recordings. He has released numerous singles and extended plays. He has also worked in radio for over a decade, hosting regular shows for Capital FM, Kiss FM and BBC 6. Career Ali B began his career at the age of 18 at the Blue Note Club in London. He then moved on to Fabric where he had a ten-year residency. He was one of the first DJs to play at Fabric and also performed at their pre-opening party. In 2002, Ali B recorded FabricLive.02 as part of the Fabric Live Series. Ali B also worked at Acid Jazz Records before moving on to handle PR for British DJ Norman Jay and Pete Tong of BBC Radio 1. He has performed at numerous notable events such as the 50th birthday party of Mick Hucknall and the anniversary party for Gary Barlow and his wife. From November 2001 to November 2018, the London nightclub fabric ran a monthly mix compilation series. Mixed by a variety of emerging and established DJs, the two series were entitled ''fabric'' and ''FABRICLIVE'' respectively. The compilation mixes were released independently by fabric on an alternating monthly basis. In May 2018, fabric announced that the ''fabric'' series would end "in its current form" with its 100th instalment; in October 2018, fabric revealed the final ''fabric'' compilation would be a triple-disc set, mixed by two of the club's residents— Craig Richards and Terry Francis—as well as its founder, Keith Reilly. In August 2018, the club announced that the ''FABRICLIVE'' series would also end with its 100th instalment, and would be mixed by Kode 9—founder of the celebrated underground electronic music label, Hyperdub—and Burial—a pioneering UK dubstep producer. Electronica is both a broad group of electronic-based music styles intended for listening rather than strictly for dancing and a music scene that started in the early 1990s in the United Kingdom. Fabric (club)
Fabric (stylized as fabric) is a nightclub in Farringdon, London, England. Founded in 1999 on Charterhouse Street opposite Smithfield Market, the club was voted World Number 1 Club in DJ Magazine's "Top 100 Clubs Poll" in 2007 and 2008 and ranked World Number 2 in 2009, 2010 and 2017. Fabric was closed down and its licence was revoked by Islington Council in 2016, after two drug-related deaths at the club. Following a campaign to save the club it was permitted to be reopened with increased security and restrictions. History The club was founded by Keith Reilly and Cameron Leslie and opened on 29 October 1999. Fabric occupied the renovated space of the Metropolitan Cold Stores. Dreadzone
Dreadzone are a British electronic music group. They have released eight studio albums, two live albums, and two compilations. Career Dreadzone were formed in London, England in 1993 when ex- Big Audio Dynamite drummer Greg Roberts teamed up with Tim Bran, who had previously worked as a musician and sound engineer for Julian Cope and who has done production work for artists including London Grammar, Birdy, and the Dutch duo HAEVN. The name Dreadzone was suggested to Roberts and Bran by Don Letts. Bran and Roberts signed to Creation Records in 1993 and released their first album, '' 360°''. They were soon joined by bassist Leo Williams and keyboardist Dan Donovan, also formerly of Big Audio Dynamite. DJ Icey, (born Eddie Pappa), is an American DJ, electronic music producer, and remixer, credited by Allmusic as having helped to "jump-start the increasingly fertile dance scene in and around Orlando, FL, during the '90s." ''E, the Incredibly Strange History of Ecstasy'' credits him as "the prime founder of the Funky Breaks and the Florida Breaks." 1999's ''Rave America'' indicates that "the preoccupation with backbeats" characteristic of the Orlando sound was developed by DJ Icey. Biography Icey was born in Florida. Originally named DJ Icee, he had to change his name because a local Orlando ice cream manufacturing company by the same name threatened to sue him. History AllMusic was launched as ''All Music Guide'' by Michael Erlewine, a "compulsive archivist, noted astrologer, Buddhist scholar and musician". He became interested in using computers for his astrological work in the mid-1970s and founded a software company, Matrix, in 1977. In the early 1990s, as CDs replaced LPs as the dominant format for recorded music, Erlewine purchased what he thought was a CD of early recordings by Little Richard.
