FVWM-Crystal
FVWM-Crystal is a Theme (computing), theme framework for the FVWM window manager. It uses GUI tools to edit the look of windows, instead of the use of editing a text file in FVWM. It creates a desktop environment using FVWM as its window manager and main core. It features flexible window decorations, and a file manager may be optionally used to display desktop icons; ROX-Filer, Thunar and Nautilus (file manager), Nautilus are supported for this task. FVWM-Crystal offers user interface integration for some terminal emulators like xterm, aterm and urxvt, urxvt (rxvt-unicode), for a tray system such as stalonetray or trayer-srg, for various music players - among them Audacious Media Player, Audacious, MPD (Music Player), MPD, Quod Libet, XMMS and XMMS2 - and for the video/audio player MPlayer, to the point where it can control these components. FVWM
The F Virtual Window Manager is a virtual window manager for the X Window System. Originally a twm derivative, FVWM has evolved into a powerful and highly configurable environment for Unix-like systems. History In 1993, during his work analyzing acoustic signatures for the United States Department of Defense, Robert Nation began hacking twm with the intent of simultaneously reducing memory usage and adding support for virtual desktops. Already known for his rxvt terminal emulator, Nation worked on reducing the memory consumption of his new window manager. Deciding to test FVWM's reception, on June 1, 1993, he bundled it with a rxvt release. In 1994 Rob Nation stopped developing FVWM and made Charles Hines the maintainer. MPlayer
MPlayer is a free and open-source media player software application. It is available for Linux, OS X and Microsoft Windows. Versions for OS/2, Syllable, AmigaOS, MorphOS and AROS Research Operating System are also available. A port for DOS using DJGPP is also available. X Multimedia System (XMMS) is an audio player (software), audio player for Unix-like systems released under a free software license. History XMMS was originally written as ''X11Amp'' by Peter and Mikael Alm in November 1997. The player was made to resemble Winamp, which was first released in May that year. As such, XMMS has supported Winamp 2 "classic" skins since its release. MPD (Music Player)
Music Player Daemon (MPD) is a free and open music player server. It plays audio files, organizes playlists and maintains a music database. In order to interact with it, a client program is needed. The MPD distribution includes mpc, a simple command line client. MPD is used in proprietary audio hardware. The MPD project maintains a list of vendors, some of which infringe the GPL. Design MPD simply runs in the background playing music from its playlist. Client programs communicate with MPD to manipulate playback, the playlist, and the database. It is not a full-featured music player program such as Amarok, but its clients can serve such role. MPD uses a flat file database to maintain the basic music file information when it is not running. Audacious Media Player
Audacious is a free and open-source audio player software with a focus on low resource use, high audio quality, and support for a wide range of audio formats.
