FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1993
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1993 took place 19–28 February 1993 in Falun, Sweden, for the third time (1954, 1974). This event saw the creation of the combined pursuit where competitors would skate one distance in the classical interval style (10 km: men, 5 km: women) one day, then follow the next day in the freestyle pursuit (15 km: men, 10 km: women) with the first distance winner going first in the pursuit. Additionally it was the first competition since the breakup of the Soviet Union in late 1991 and the first competition with Czechoslovakia having been split up as the Czech Republic and Slovakia, however, the two nations competed as combined teams in women's relay in cross-country skiing and team large hill in ski jumping. Falun
Falun () is a city and the seat of Falun Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 37,291 inhabitants in 2010. It is also the capital of Dalarna County. Falun forms, together with Borlänge, a metropolitan area with just over 100,000 inhabitants. Falun was originally famous for its copper mine, and is today an important service and industrial city even though the mine is closed (since 1992). Faluån is a river, flowing through the city, separating it into two sides. Falu copper mine is located on one of the sides which during many centuries was one of Sweden's main business. Yelena Valeryevna Välbe (russian: Елена Валерьевна Вяльбе, née ''Trubitsyna''; born 20 April 1968) is a Russian former cross-country skier. She won a record-high 14 gold, including all five golds at the 1997 World Championships. Stefania Belmondo
Stefania Belmondo (born 13 January 1969) is an Italian former cross-country skier, a two-time Olympic champion and four-time world champion in her career. Biography Debut Belmondo was born in Vinadio, in the province of Cuneo (Piedmont), the daughter of a housewife and an electric company employee. In her career she skied with the G.S. Forestale. She started to ski at the age of three in the Piedmontese mountains of her native city. She made her debut at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 1987. Trude Dybendahl (born 8 January 1966), sometimes listed as Trude Dybendahl-Hartz or Trude Dybendahl Hartz, is a former Norwegian cross-country skier who competed from 1986 to 1998. Larisa Yevgenyevna Lazutina (russian: Лариса Евгеньевна Лазутина; née Ptitsyna, born 1 June 1965) is a Russian former professional cross-country skier. Alexey Alexeyevich Prokurorov (russian: Алексе́й Алексе́евич Прокуро́ров; 25 March 1964 – 10 October 2008) was a Soviet/Russian cross-country skier who competed in the late 1980s and 1990s for both the Soviet Union and Russia. Igor Gayniachmetovich Badamshin (russian: Игоръ Гайниахметович Бадамшин) (June 12, 1966 – January 24, 2014) was a Soviet/Russian cross-country skier who competed from 1989 to 1997. Giorgio Vanzetta (born 9 October 1959 in Cavalese) is an Italian former cross-country skier who competed from 1980 to 2002. His best known victory was part of the 4 × 10 km relay team that upset Norway at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer.
