FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 were the 41st FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, held 7–20 February in Germany at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria. These were the second alpine world championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which previously hosted in 1978. It also hosted the first Olympic alpine skiing competition, a combined event at the 1936 Winter Olympics. The FIS awarded the championships on 25 May 2006, in Vilamoura, Portugal. The runner-up was Schladming, Austria, which hosted the next championships in 2013. Prior to landing the 2011 event in 2006, Garmisch-Partenkirchen had unsuccessfully bid to host the world championships five times in the previous two decades. Most of the competitions took place on the Kandahar slopes of Garmisch Classic, one of the two skiing areas of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Leif Kristian Haugen
Leif Kristian Nestvold-Haugen (born 29 November 1987) is a Norwegian World Cup alpine ski racer, specializing in the technical events of giant slalom and slalom. Haugen made his World Cup debut in October 2009 in Sölden, and collected his first World Cup points with a 26th place. He won a bronze medal in giant slalom at the World Championships in 2017 and attained his first World Cup podium in March 2017 at Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. Nestvold-Haugen represents the sports club Lommedalens IL, and hails from Lommedalen. At the Junior World Championships, he achieved two seventh places in 2006 in Mont-Sainte-Anne and an eighth place in 2007 in Flachau. Personal life Nestvold-Haugen is from Lommedalen, Norway. Stefan Luitz
Stefan Luitz (; born 26 March 1992) is a German World Cup alpine ski racer. He primarily competes in giant slalom, but in January 2016 at Kitzbühel, Luitz completed both runs in slalom, a first in his World Cup career, and finished eighteenth. His only previous second run in slalom was more than three years earlier, in December 2012 at Madonna di Campiglio, where he failed to finish. Luitz made his World Cup debut at Adelboden in 2011, and attained his first podium in December 2012, a second place in giant slalom at Val d'Isère, France. Matic Skube (born February 23, 1988 in Kranj, SFR Yugoslavia) is a retired alpine skier from Slovenia. He competed for Slovenia at the 2010 Winter Olympics where he failed to finish the first run of the slalom. At the World Junior Alpine Skiing Championships 2007, he won the gold medal in slalom. Truls Ove Karlsen (born 25 April 1975 in Oslo) is a retired Norwegian alpine skier. He made his Alpine Skiing World Cup debut in Sölden in 2001. He made a total of 143 World Cup starts, finishing third in a slalom in Sestriere in December 2002 and scoring his only World Cup win in a slalom in Kranjska Gora in February 2004, leading home team-mate Tom Stiansen in a Norwegian one-two ahead of Austrian Mario Matt. His best World Cup seasons were 2003 and 2004, where he finished eighth in the slalom standings. His best results at the Alpine Skiing World Championships were achieved at the 2007 Championships in Åre, where he finished sixth in the giant slalom and seventh in the slalom. Sandro Viletta (born 23 January 1986) is a Swiss former World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist. From the village of La Punt Chamues-ch, near St. Moritz in the canton of Graubünden, he made his World Cup debut in November 2006 and won his first race in December 2011. Marc Berthod (born 24 November 1983 in Saint-Moritz) is a retired Swiss alpine skier. In 2005, he was Swiss champion in giant slalom.
