Alpine Skiing Combined
Combined is an event in alpine ski racing. A traditional combined competition consists of one run of downhill and two runs of slalom, each discipline runs on separate days. The winner is the skier with the fastest aggregate time. (Until the 1990s, a complicated point system was used to determine placings in the combined event.) A modified version, the super combined, is a speed race (downhill or super-G) and only one run of slalom, with both portions scheduled on the same day. History The first World Championships in 1931 did not include the combined event, but it was added to the program in 1932. Alpine skiing at the Winter Olympics was not included until 1936, and the combined was the only event. The combined was one of three medal events at the next Olympics in 1948, along with downhill and slalom. The combined used the results of the only downhill race with two runs of combined slalom. Marcel Hirscher
Marcel Hirscher (born 2 March 1989) is an Austrian former World Cup alpine ski racer. Hirscher made his World Cup debut in March 2007. He competed primarily in slalom and giant slalom, as well as combined and occasionally in super G. Winner of a record eight consecutive World Cup titles, Hirscher has also won 11 medals at the Alpine Skiing World Championships, seven of them gold, a silver medal in slalom at the 2014 Winter Olympics, and two gold medals in the combined and giant slalom at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Edward Drake (skier)
Edward "Ed" Drake (born 12 January 1986) is a British former alpine skier and ski cross racer. He started competing internationally at the age of 12 for the British Children's Ski Team. He represented Great Britain at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver where he took part in the men's downhill, super-G, giant slalom and combined despite partially tearing his anterior cruciate ligament shortly before the Games. Drake is a four-time British champion winning the giant slalom and combined in 2008 and 2009. In 2013 he switched from alpine skiing to ski cross after competing in his first ski cross event, a World Cup competition in Megève, in January of that year when an alpine FIS race he was planning to enter was cancelled. Lars Elton Myhre (born 17 August 1984) is a retired Norwegian alpine skier. He primarily competed in slalom and combined events. Myhre took a bronze medal at the World Junior Championships in 2004, and made his World Cup debut the same year. He participated in slalom at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. He represented Norway at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Myhre scored a total of nine top 10 finishes in the Alpine Skiing World Cup, with a best result of fifth in a Super Combined in Beaver Creek in 2007. Theodore Sharp Ligety (born August 31, 1984) is a retired American alpine ski racer, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, and an entrepreneur, having cofounded Shred Optics. Ligety won the combined event at the 2006 Olympics in Turin and the giant slalom race at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. He is also a five-time World Cup champion in giant slalom (2008, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014). Ligety won the gold medal in the giant slalom at the 2011 World Championships. Stephan Keppler
Stephan Keppler (born February 1, 1983 in Innsbruck) is a German alpine skier. Keppler grew up in Albstadt, a town on the Swabian Alb, in Baden-Württemberg. He learned skiing at his local winter sports club, WSV, of Ebingen. As an adult, he joined the Bundeswehr, the German military, as an army-sponsored athlete (German: "Sportsoldat"). In 1999, he took part in his first FIS races. In the same season, he won the German youth championship in the slalom, in 2003 in the giant slalom and Super G competitions. Since 2003, Keppler has been starting in races of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, with his debut at Garmisch on February 22.
