FINA World Swimming Championships
The FINA World Championships or World Aquatics Championships are the World Championships for aquatics sports: Swimming (sport), swimming, Diving (sport), diving, high diving, open water swimming, artistic swimming, and water polo. They are run by FINA, and all swimming events are contested in a Olympic-size swimming pool, long course (50-metre) pool. The event was first held in 1973 World Aquatics Championships, 1973 in Belgrade, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Yugoslavia, and is now held every two years. From 1978 World Aquatics Championships, 1978 to 1998 World Aquatics Championships, 1998, the World Championships were held every four years, in the even years between Summer Olympic years. From 2001 World Aquatics Championships, 2001 until 2019, the Championships have been held every two years, in the odd years. 2022 World Aquatics Championships
The 2022 World Aquatics Championships, the 19th edition of the FINA World Aquatics Championships, were held in Budapest, Hungary, from 17 June to 3 July 2022. In March 2022, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, FINA banned both the Russian and Belarusian nationals from entering the championships. Host selection Originally, Budapest was selected to host the 2021 World Aquatics Championships. However, after Guadalajara, Mexico, pulled out from the organization of the 2017 Championships, the city took the responsibility for hosting the event, since the infrastructure was already fully ready. Consequently, the application process for the 2021 edition was reopened and the event was relocated to Fukuoka, Japan, and was scheduled to be held between 16 July to August 1, 2021. To avoid clash with the postponed 2020 Summer Olympics the event was rescheduled to be held between 13 to 29 May, 2022. 2001 World Aquatics Championships
right The 2001 World Aquatics Championships or the 9th FINA World Swimming Championships were held in Fukuoka, Japan between 16 July and 29 July 2001. The opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the swimming and synchronised swimming events, were held at Marine Messe, an indoor multi-purpose facility. The temporary 50-m pool with 10,000 seats on three sides cost US$4 million for the two-week period. The Fukuoka Prefectural Pool hosted the diving events, with open water swimming taking place at Momochi Beach. Water polo was held at two locations: the men's competition took place at Hakata-no-Mori Center Court and the women's event at the Nishi Civic Pool Complex.
