Altenberg () is a town in the Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge district, in Saxony, Germany. Geography The town is situated in the Ore Mountains, 32 km south of Dresden, and 15 km northwest of Teplice, Czech Republic. Markus Schmidt (born 23 October 1968) is an Austrian luger who competed between 1987 and 1997. Competing in two Winter Olympics, he earned a bronze medal in the men's singles event at Albertville in 1992. Schmidt also won two medals in the mixed team event at the FIL World Luge Championships with a gold in 1996 and a silver in 1991. Natalie Obkircher (born 7 February 1971 in Geldern) is an Italian luger who competed between 1990 and 2003. She won five medals in the mixed team event at the FIL World Luge Championships with one silver (1995) and four bronzes (1991, 1993, 1996, 1997). At the FIL European Luge Championships, Obkircher won six medals in the mixed team event with a gold in 1994, a silver in 1998 and a bronze in 1990, 1992, 1996 and 2000. Armin Zöggeler
Armin Zöggeler OMRI (born 4 January 1974) is a retired Italian luger and double Olympic champion. He is one of the most successful men in the sport, nicknamed ''Il Cannibale'' ("The Cannibal"), for his notable series of victories, or ''The Iceblood Champion'', for his always cold, rational approach to the races. Fellow luger Tucker West described Zöggeler as the sport's equivalent of Michael Jordan. At the Winter Olympic Games, Zöggeler has won six medals in six consecutive Olympics – and this is a record in sport. He also has sixteen medals at the FIL World Luge Championships. At the FIL European Luge Championships, Zöggeler has earned eighteen medals. In June 2019 he was inducted in the FIL ''Hall of Fame''. Wilfried Huber
Wilfried Huber (born 15 November 1970 in Bruneck, South Tyrol) is an Italian luger and coach who competed from 1985 to 2010. Together with Kurt Brugger, he won the men's doubles event at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. He competed in both doubles and singles, but enjoyed his greatest success in doubles in partnership with Brugger. He made his debut in the Luge World Cup in 1986-87 season. He also took two medals at the World Junior Championships in Olang in 1988, a silver and a bronze. He competed in six Winter Olympics, in 1988, 1992, 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006: he was aiming to compete at the 2010 Winter Olympics, however he was not selected by the Italian team's head coach Walter Plaikner, and retired at the end of the season. Gabriele Kohlisch
Gabriele Kohlisch (born 7 December 1963) is a German luger and bobsledder who competed from the mid-1980s to 1997 in luge, then from 1998 to the early 2000s in bobsleigh. She is one of only two people to win World Championship gold medals in both bobsledding and luge, the other being fellow German Susi Erdmann. She was born in Karl-Marx-Stadt (modern Chemnitz) and initially competed for East Germany. Andrea Tagwerker (born 23 October 1970) is an Austrian luger who competed from the late 1980s to the early 1990s. Competing in four Winter Olympics, she won the bronze medal in the women's singles luge event at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. Tagwerker was the last non-German to win a women's single event in luge in 1997 at the Luge World Cup, Winter Olympic, World Championship, or European Championship level. Angelika Neuner (born 23 December 1969) is an Austrian luger who competed from 1987 to 2002. Competing in four Winter Olympics, she won two medals in the women's singles event with a silver in 1992 and a bronze in 1998. Her younger sister, Doris, won the gold medal in the same event at Albertville in 1992. Neuner also won six medals at the FIL World Luge Championships, including two gold (Mixed team: 1996, 1997), one silver (Mixed team: 1993), and three bronzes (Women's singles: 1997, Mixed team: 1995, 2000). She won five medals at the FIL European Luge Championships, earning them in 1992 (silver: Mixed team), 1996 (silver: Mixed team, bronze: Women's singles), 1998 (bronze: Mixed team) and 2002 (bronze: Mixed team).
