Oberhof, Germany
Oberhof is a town in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district of Thuringia, Germany. Located in the Thuringian Forest mountain range, it is a winter sports center and health resort. With 1,625 inhabitants (December 2016), it is visited by 144,000 tourists every year (2016). The town obtained its official city status in 1985. History Oberhof was first mentioned in a document in 1470. The village in the Black Forest department belonged to various Ernestine duchies, most recently to the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha from 1826 to 1918. In 1830, Ernest I, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha had a hunting lodge built. In 1861 the first vacation guests came to the village. With the completion of the Brandleite Tunnel of the Neudietendorf-Ritschenhausen railway, Oberhof received a railroad connection in 1884, which enabled the expansion of tourism. Lutz Kühnlenz
Lutz Kühnlenz (born 24 June 1965 in Ilmenau) was an East Germany, East German luger who competed in the mid-1980s. He won the silver medal in the men's doubles event at the FIL World Luge Championships 1985, 1985 FIL World Luge Championships. His sporting talent was recognized early and promoted in the Children and Youth Sports School (KJS) in Oberhof, Germany, Oberhof. Even as a teenager he specialized in luge on the doubles and at the age of 18 he and his partner, René Keller, were already vice European- and World Champions in the youth competitions. In 1982, the two became East Germany, GDR champions in Oberwiesenthal, and in 1985 and 1986 they were runners-up in Oberhof. Jochen Pietzsch (born 1 December 1963 in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt) is a former East German luger who competed during the mid-1980s. Together with Jörg Hoffmann, he won two medals in the men's doubles event with a gold in 1988 and a bronze in 1984. Pietzsch also found great success at the FIL World Luge Championships with a total of six medals, including four gold (Men's doubles: 1983, 1985, 1987; Mixed team: 1990) and two bronzes (Men's doubles: 1989, 1990).
