Oscar Aldo Moglia Eiras (February 1, 1935 – October 8, 1989) was a basketball player from Uruguay. He was Jewish. Club career During his club career, Moglia played with the Uruguayan team Club Atlético Welcome. He won five Uruguayan Federal Championships (1953, 1956, 1957, 1966, 1967). He was the league's second all-time highest scorer, after Fefo Ruiz, with 11,374 career total points scored. National team career With the senior Uruguayan national basketball team, Moglia was the top scorer in points per game, of the 1954 FIBA World Championship, with a scoring average of 18.7 points per game. The 1967 FIBA World Championship was the 5th FIBA World Championship, the international basketball world championship for men's teams. It was hosted by Montevideo, Uruguay from 27 May to 11 June 1967. Aleksandr Pavlovich Petrov (sometimes: Alexandre) (russian: Александр Павлович Петров; 14 May 1939 – 5 May 2001) was one of the first tall centers in Soviet basketball. Playing for the senior men's Soviet Union national basketball team, he won silver medals at the 1960 Summer Olympics and 1964 Summer Olympics, a bronze medal at the 1963 FIBA World Championship, as well as four EuroBasket titles, at EuroBasket 1959, EuroBasket 1961, EuroBasket 1963, and EuroBasket 1965. He was named the best center at the 1963 FIBA World Championship. After he retired from playing, he coached basketball teams in Moscow, and later in Madagascar. 1963 FIBA World Championship
The 1963 FIBA World Championship was the 4th FIBA World Championship, the international basketball world championship for men's teams. The competition was hosted by Brazil. The Philippines was originally supposed to host the tournament but FIBA revoked hosting rights after the country refused to grant visas to players from communist countries. Brazil being the defending Champion and a previous host, fairly managed to re-host the Championship from 12 to 25 May 1963 and won the 1st back to back title with just six (6) games by seeding the well-rested host team in the final round only. Background The Philippines was supposed to host the FIBA World Championship in 1962 but FIBA revoked hosting rights after the government of then President Diosdado Macapagal, refused to grant visas to players and officials of socialists countries including Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union. Jānis Krūmiņš (30 January 1930 – 20 November 1994) was a Soviet Union, Soviet-Latvian people, Latvian professional basketball player. Helped by his height (about 220 cm, or 7'3"), he was the first giant Center (basketball), center that dominated under European baskets, for years. Amaury Antônio Pasos, also commonly known simply as Amaury (born December 11, 1935) is a retired Brazilian basketball player and coach of Argentine origin. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, he was a 1.91 m (6'3") tall power forward. He competed at three Olympic Games and was named one of FIBA's 50 Greatest Players in 1991. He was awarded with the Brazil Former Athlete Olympic Prize in 2003. He was enshrined into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2007. Juan "Pachín" Vicéns Sastre (September 7, 1934 – February 18, 2007) was a Puerto Rican basketball player. Vicéns was famous for his performance with the Leones de Ponce and with the Puerto Rican national basketball team. During the 1959 FIBA World Championship in Chile, Vicéns was declared to be the ''Best Player in the World''. Basketball career Juan Vicéns Sastre was born in Ciales, Puerto Rico. The 1959 FIBA World Championship was the 3rd FIBA World Championship, the international basketball world championship for men's teams. It was hosted by Chile from 16 to 31 January 1959. Amaury Antônio Pasos was named the MVP. The hosting cities for the competition were Antofagasta, Concepción, Temuco, Valparaíso, with the final stages being held at the capital of Santiago. The final stages were supposed to be held at the newly constructed Metropolitan Indoor Stadium, but because the venue was not finished in time the games were postponed by a year from the original date and moved outdoors to the Estadio Nacional de Chile, configured in a way that the games were seen by a crowd of 16,000.
