FC Satmos
FC Satmos is a football club from Botswana based in Selebi-Phikwe. SATMOS was originally called ''Copper Chiefs Football Club'' and was formed in 1996 by Late Samuel Thotogelo Molati Sono (SATMOS). The club is popularly known as the Cheetahs. It became a professional team in 1997. Its Motto is Youth Development and Professionalism. In 1997, FC Satmos was registered in the league and duly took the place of Copper Chiefs in the then Chibuku Second Division. The team was duly promoted to the first division, It came as no surprise as Satmos won the First Division campaign and was promoted to the elite league in 1999. Selebi-Phikwe
Selebi-Phikwe (also spelt ''Selibe Phikwe'') is a mining town located in the Central District of Botswana. It had a population of 42,488 in 2022. The town is an administrative district, separate from the surrounding Central District. Mining Nickel mining commenced in 1973 and has been the main activity since. The complex includes a mine and a smelter. All operations are now deep mining. Originally there were two tiny places called Selebi and Phikwe, which straddled a large undiscovered deposit of copper and nickel in the area. When the mineral wealth of the area was discovered in the 1960s a mine and a township were built in the woodland between the places with the combined name of Selebi-Phikwe. The main source of employment was the BCL Limited mine which excavated and smelted mixed copper-nickel ore from several shafts in deep and opencast mines. The opencast pit is now unused. Organised by the Botswana Football Association, the league was formed in 1978 to replace the pre-independence Bechuanaland Union African Soccer League, which was regional.
