FC Banants
Football Club Urartu ( hy, Ուրարտու Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ, translated ''Futbolayin Akumb Urartu''), commonly known as Urartu, is an Armenian professional football team based in the capital Yerevan that currently plays in the Armenian Premier League. The club won the Armenian Cup three times, in 1992, 2007 and 2016. In 2013–2014, they won the Armenian Premier League for the first time in their history. In early 2016, the Russia-based Armenian businessman Dzhevan Cheloyants became a co-owner of the club after purchasing the major part of the club shares. The club was known as FC Banants until 1 August 2019, when it was officially renamed FC Urartu. Urartu Stadium
Urartu Stadium ( hy, Ուրարտու Մարզադաշտ) is an all-seater football stadium in the Malatia-Sebastia District of Yerevan, Armenia. The stadium is home to Urartu FC and has a capacity of 4,860 seats. It was known as Banants Stadium until 1 August 2019, when it was officially renamed Urartu Stadium. Overview Urartu Stadium is located within the sports complex of Urartu Training Centre, occupying the southern part of the complex. The construction of the stadium was launched in 2006 with the assistance of the FIFA Goal Programme. It was officially opened in 2008 with a capacity of 3,600 seats. Further developments were implemented later in 2011, when the playing pitch was modernized and the capacity of the stadium was increased up to 4,860 seats; 2,760 at the northern stand, 1,500 at the southern stand and 600 at the western stand. Samvel Melkonyan
Samvel Melkonyan ( hy, Սամվել Մելքոնյան, born on 15 March 1984 in Yerevan, Armenian SSR, Soviet Union) is an Armenian former footballer who played as a winger. Samvel was also a member of the Armenia national football team, participated in 29 international matches since his debut at home 2006 World Cup qualification match against the Netherlands on 3 September 2005. Club career Samvel began his professional career playing for Spartak Yerevan. When Spartak merged with Banants, Samvel Melkonyan automatically transferred to Banants. He has been one of the stars at his new club for the past few years. Melkonyan transferred to Ukrainian club Metalurh Donetsk in 2008, but his spell there was not successful and he returned to Banants the following year. Melkonyan transferred to Chernomorets Burgas in Bulgaria in January 2012. He made his first appearance on 4 March 2012 and had one assist in a 2–0 win for the team against CSKA Sofia. The 2001 Armenian Cup was the tenth edition of the Armenian Cup, a football competition. In 2001, the tournament had 16 participants, none of which were reserve teams. 2001 Armenian Premier League
In the 2001 Armenian Premier League, FC Pyunik were the champions. Overview * FC Armenicum, Karabakh Yerevan, Lori Vanadzor, and FC Kotayk were promoted from the Armenian First League last year. FC Armenicum were dissolved and yielded their place to the revived FC Pyunik. * Newly established Dinamo-2000 Yerevan are allowed to participate in the premier league without competing in the Armenian First League first. * In August 2001, Araks Ararat FC were dissolved and Spartak Yerevan took their place in the championship. * FC Banants Kotayk demerged from Kotayk Abovyan and the owner of the club decided to move the club from Abovyan to Yerevan, and thus Banants Kotayk became FC Banants Yerevan. Varuzhan Sukiasyan
Varuzhan Sukiasyan ( hy, Վարուժան Սուքիասյան, russian: Варужан Гарсеванович Сукиасян; born 5 August 1956 in Yerevan), is an Armenian association football manager and former player. He is the brother of Yervand Sukiasyan. Between 1978 and 1987, Sukiasyan played at FC Kotayk of Abovyan. He managed the Armenia national team in the 2000–2001 period. In 2015–2016, he worked as manager of the Armenia national team, his second spell. Coaching career In 1989, Sukiasyan began his coaching career in FC Lori from Vanadzor, then was the coach of Banants Kotayk between 1992 and 1994, including when they won the Armenian Cup in 1992. He also was the coach of Van Yerevan and Homenmen Beirut. In 1998, Sukiasyan became the coach of Tsement Ararat with which he won the Armenian Premier League in 1998 and 2000 and Armenian Cup in 1998 and 1999. Malatia-Sebastia District
Malatia-Sebastia ( hy, Մալաթիա-Սեբաստիա վարչական շրջան, ), also nicknamed colloquially as Bangladesh, is one of the 12 districts of Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, located in the western part of the city.
