FC Amsterdam
FC Amsterdam was a Dutch football club which was founded on 20 June 1972, from the merger of the Amsterdam football clubs Blauw Wit and DWS. The club Volewijckers joined the side for the 1973–1974 season, in which season FC Amsterdam finished as 5th of the 18 clubs in the Dutch top-league. After a successful start, in which the club made it to the quarter finals of the 1974–75 UEFA Cup defeating Italian giants Inter Milan in the process, the club was relegated from the Eredivisie to the Eerste Divisie in the 1977-1978 season. This resulted in a massive reduction in spectator numbers for FC Amsterdam, with the club moving out of the Olympic Stadium in 1980. The side disbanded in May 1982, after the 1981-1982 season. Olympic Stadium (Amsterdam)
The Olympic Stadium (Dutch: ''Olympisch Stadion'', ) is a sporting venue which was used as the main stadium for the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. The venue is currently used mostly for athletics, other sports events and concerts. When completed, the stadium had a capacity of 31,600. Following the completion of the rival De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam in 1937, the Amsterdam authorities increased the capacity of the Olympic Stadium to 64,000 by adding a second ring to the stadium. In 1987 the stadium was listed as a national monument. AFC Ajax used the Olympic Stadium for international games until 1996, when the Amsterdam Arena, since 2018 renamed Johan Cruyff Arena, was completed. Renovation started in 1996, and the stadium was refurbished into the original construction of 1928. The second ring of 1937 was removed, reducing capacity to 22,288, and the stadium was made suitable for track and field competitions again. Geert Meijer
Geert Meijer (born 15 March 1951) is a Dutch association football, football manager and former professional player. Playing career Born in Sellingen, Meijer played as a Midfielder#Winger, left winger, and began his professional career in 1972 with FC Amsterdam. After moving to city rivals AFC Ajax, Ajax three years later, where he spent four seasons, Meijer spent a year in England with Bristol City F.C., Bristol City, making 15 appearances in the Football League First Division, First Division. Upon his return to the Netherlands, Meijer played for Sparta Rotterdam, FC Dordrecht, DS'79 and NAC Breda, before retiring in 1986. Coaching career While still a professional player, Meijer began his coaching career. He managed the amateur teams VV Strijen, DCV (football club), DCV and Hermes DVS. Heini Otto
Heini Otto (born 24 August 1954) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. Club career Early career Otto worked for his father-in-law in the gold business, and then in a whisky distillery before becoming a professional footballer. He began his career playing for FC Amsterdam between 1974 and 1977, followed by a move to FC Twente until 1980, where he had replaced Arnold Mühren after he left for Ipswich Town. Middlesbrough In the summer of 1981, Otto played three friendly games for English side Middlesbrough, with a view to a permanent transfer. He impressed manager Bobby Murdoch and signed a two-year contract in August. He made a scoring debut in the Football League, against Tottenham Hotspur at Ayresome Park, but the team lost 3–1. Martin Wiggemansen (7 June 1957 – 19 August 2021) was a Dutch professional footballer who played as a left winger. Club career Born in Amsterdam, Wiggemansen played for FC Amsterdam, Ajax, Lugano and PEC Zwolle. Gerard Van Der Lem
Gerard van der Lem (born 15 November 1952) is a retired football winger from the Netherlands, who made his professional debut for FC Amsterdam on 12 August 1973 against PSV Eindhoven. He later played for Roda JC, Feyenoord Rotterdam, Sparta Rotterdam and FC Utrecht. After his professional playing career Gerard van der Lem started his coaching career as assistant coach to world-famous coaches like Piet de Visser, Dick Advocaat and Louis van Gaal. In his first engagement at FC Alkmaar (AZS) he was responsible coach for the amateur teams (and became Holland Champion in 1985) as well as assistant coach to Piet de Visser with the senior team. Jan Jongbloed
Jan Jongbloed (; born 25 November 1940) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He played with the Netherlands national football team. Career Jongbloed was born in Amsterdam. He played with DWS (later FC Amsterdam), Roda JC and Go Ahead Eagles. The 707 games he played in the Eredivisie was a record. Jongbloed made 24 appearances for the Netherlands, winning his first cap in 1962 and last in the 1978 FIFA World Cup final. He played with the Netherlands national team at the 1974 and 1978 FIFA World Cups. He retired in 1986 at age 45, due to a heart attack that he suffered while playing, and then worked as a football coach. Personal life Jongbloed was married twice and twice divorced; he has a daughter Nicole. His son Eric was also a football goalkeeper with DWS.
