FAB Link
FAB Link is a proposed HVDC Interconnector, spanning the between France and Great Britain, running close to the island of Alderney. As of March 2022, project planning has tentatively re-started after a five-year pause. Current project status In 2017, the French energy regulator said it needed more clarity on the conditions of the UK’s exit from the European Union, putting the whole project in doubt. In March 2022, the project promoters, FAB Link Limited and RTE, agreed to "review and reassess the project." The aim is to seek regulators' support to restart the project. In July 2022 the proposed route was announced and it would avoid landfall in Alderney. IFA-2 (Interconnexion France-Angleterre 2) is a subsea electrical interconnector, running beneath the English Channel between France and the United Kingdom. The high voltage DC (HVDC) cable operates at +/-320kV with the capacity to transmit 1,000 MW of power. IFA-2 is the second interconnector built between France and Great Britain, after IFA (HVDC Cross-Channel) link. Route The cable connects to the French grid at the Tourbe 400kV substation. From there, a high voltage alternating current (HVAC) underground cable runs to the converter station nearby. Channel Islands Electricity Grid
The Channel Islands Electricity Grid (CIEG) is the joint company set up in 1998 between Guernsey Electricity and Jersey Electricity to operate and manage the submarine cables between mainland Europe and the Channel Islands. The grid physically comprises a network of high voltage (90 kV, 3-phase, 50 Hz) submarine and underground cables linking the French electricity grid to the electricity systems on the islands of Jersey and Guernsey. The grid enables electricity generated from renewable sources in France to be transmitted to Jersey and Guernsey.
