Atsuya Furuta
Atsuya Furuta (古田 敦也, b. August 6, 1965) is a Japanese former baseball player and player-manager for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows professional baseball club in the Nippon Professional Baseball's Central League. Drafted in the 2nd round in 1990, Furuta became a leader for the Swallows as a catcher and became the first player-manager in Japanese baseball in 29 years, since Katsuya Nomura in 1977. In addition to his skills on the field, he is also known for leading a successful two-day strike in 2004 as the head of the Japanese baseball players union. He remains one of the most prominent figures in Japanese baseball because of his leadership both on and off the field. is the governor of Gifu Prefecture in Japan, first elected in 2005 and reelected in 2009. A native of Gifu, Gifu, he was chosen as the final torchbearer for the National Sports Festival when it was held in Gifu while he was a senior at Gifu Prefectural Senior High School. He entered the Faculty of Law at the University of Tokyo and joined the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in 1971. was a Japanese high school student who was abducted, raped, tortured and then subsequently murdered. Her case was called the , due to her body being discovered in a concrete drum. The abuse was mainly perpetrated by four male teenagers (Hiroshi Miyano, Jō Ogura, Shinji Minato, and Yasushi Watanabe) over a period of 40 days from 25 November 1988 to 4 January 1989. The crime has been described as the worst case of juvenile delinquency in post-war Japan. The perpetrators' sentences ranged from juvenile detention to 20 years in prison. was a dive bomber pilot in the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during World War II. He flew Aichi D3A dive bomber from carrier ''Akagi'' during the Attack on Pearl Harbor and the Indian Ocean Raid, and later from carrier ''Shōkaku'' in both carrier battles during Solomon Islands Campaign, where he scored bomb hits on United States Navy (USN) carrier ''Enterprise'' on two separate occasions. Early career Kiyoto Furuta was born in 1914 in Yamaguchi Prefecture to a poor farmer family with five children. In his youth, he often worked hard in the field to help his father. , whose birth name was , was a daimyō and celebrated master of the Japanese tea ceremony. He was originally a retainer of Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Biography His teacher in the tea ceremony was Sen no Rikyū. He became the foremost tea master in the land after Rikyū's death, and taught this art to the shōgun Tokugawa Hidetada. Among his other particularly famous tea ceremony students were Ueda Sōko, Kobori Enshū and Hon'ami Kōetsu. The kind of tea ceremony that he established is known as Oribe-ryū (see Schools of Japanese tea ceremony), and the style of ceramics that are attributed to his artistic influence are known as Oribe ware. Furuta Shigekatsu
was a Japanese samurai of the Sengoku period of Japan. He fought under Toyotomi Hideyoshi at the Siege of Odawara Castle and in the Bunroku Campaign in Korea (1592–1593). As a reward for his efforts, he received Matsuzaka (37,000 ''koku'') in Ise. He was the first ''daimyō'' of that region. In 1600, he sided with Tokugawa Ieyasu and fought in the Battle of Sekigahara.
