Furir Bari Iftari is a tradition of giving various kinds of seasonal fruits, sweetmeats and different Iftar item to the house of one's daughter-in-law during the month of Ramadan, which is an age old custom in Sylhet region. This term has come from Sylheti word Furi (daughter) as the custom is based on a daughter and her family. Although the celebration is not any obligatory practice, many unpleasant incidents were reported in different places because of unable to give the ''Iftar''. Statistics show that many women have also been tortured as a result of this custom. Many have died due to this system, while others have even committed suicide. White House Iftar Dinner
The White House Iftar dinner is an annual reception held at the White House and hosted by the U.S. President and the First Lady to celebrate the Muslim month of Ramadan. The annual tradition started in 1996 when Hillary Clinton hosted a Ramadan Eid celebration dinner. The modern iteration of the reception is attended by prominent members of the Muslim American community including politicians, community leaders and students. Thomas Jefferson held the first White House dinner (not an Iftar dinner) with a Muslim while hosting Sidi Soliman Mellimelli, an envoy of Beylik of Tunis, on December 9, 1805.
