''Functioning on Impatience'' is the second full-length album by American metalcore band Coalesce, originally released in 1998 through Second Nature Recordings Second Nature Recordings is an independent record label based in Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri. It specializes in indie rock and co-releases vinyl pressings for other labels. The label has released material by Coalesce (band), Coale .... The LP edition of the record was repressed for the album's 10th anniversary in 2008, featuring a uniquely cut sleeve shaped after the rib cage on the cover art. The CD edition features a transparent front insert. Coalesce (band)
Coalesce was an American metalcore band formed in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1994. They are considered pioneers of mathcore and were known for its aggressive style of music and reckless live shows. The band broke up in 2010 and has performed two reunion shows since then. History Formation and early years (1994–1996) Before forming Coalesce, guitarist Jes Steineger and bassist Stacy Hilt were members of the Krishnacore band Amara, Jim Redd was the drummer of the alternative metal band Loathe, and Sean Ingram was the frontman of the straight edge band Restrain, all from Kansas City, Missouri. Both Amara and Restrain performed several times together and were friends. Ingram, who was a big fan of Earth Crisis and the burgeoning vegan straight edge scene, relocated to Syracuse, New York on Christmas Day, 1993. Lawrence is the county seat of Douglas County, Kansas, Douglas County, Kansas, United States, and the sixth-largest city in the state. Metalcore
Metalcore (also known as metallic hardcore) is a fusion music genre that combines elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk. As with other styles blending metal and hardcore, such as crust punk and grindcore, metalcore is noted for its use of breakdowns, slow, intense passages conducive to moshing. Mathcore
Mathcore is a subgenre of hardcore punk and metalcore influenced by post-hardcore, extreme metal and math rock that developed during the 1990s. Bands in the genre emphasize complex and fluctuant rhythms through the use of irregular time signatures, polymeters, syncopations and tempo changes. Early mathcore lyrics were addressed from a realistic worldview and with a pessimistic, defiant, resentful or sarcastic point of view. In the 1990s, the hardcore punk scene started to embrace extreme metal openly. It also started to become highly ideological, with most of the popular bands being part of subcultures. This led to bands such as Converge, Botch, Coalesce and The Dillinger Escape Plan to establish the genre. The label has released material by Coalesce (band), Coalesce, The Blood Brothers (band), The Blood Brothers, Waxwing (band), Waxwing, These Arms Are Snakes, and The Casket Lottery. Second Nature was founded by Dan Askew after he started a zine in high school also entitled ''Second Nature''. His zine was combined with a friend's with the intention of releasing compilation CDs. The label released a CD compiling some of Coalesce (band), Coalesce's unreleased tracks with their 7" demo, and Askew joined the band for a tour. ''Give Them Rope'' is the debut full-length album by American metalcore band Coalesce (band), Coalesce, originally released on June 1, 1997, through Edision Recordings. It was re-released in 2004 in a remastered and remixed format under the name ''Give Them Rope, She Said'' with new artwork. A two-disc deluxe compact disc edition was released by Relapse Records in 2011, this time using the original artwork and title. This album has never charted.
