''From the Ashes'' is the seventh studio album by the American punk rock band Pennywise. Background Pennywise released their sixth studio album, ''Land of the Free?'', in June 2001. The band promoted it with a short stint on the Warped Tour, a Midwestern tour of the United States, and shows in Australia and Japan until April 2002. After this, guitarist Fletcher Dragge spent three months writing material for their next album. In November 2002, it was reported that they had spent a few months in a studio, having completed 15 demos. In January 2003, the band began recording their next album; sessions continued into April 2003. They took a break from recording to play a benefit show in February 2003. They took sometime out when Dragge's father died; the album was eventually mixed in June 2003. Pennywise (band)
Pennywise is an American punk rock band from Hermosa Beach, California, formed in 1988. The band took its name from the antagonist in Stephen King's horror novel '' It'' known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Between their 1991 self-titled debut and 2005's '' The Fuse'', Pennywise released an album every two years on Epitaph Records, a label owned by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. To date, the band has released twelve full-length studio albums, one live album, two EPs and one DVD. ''About Time'' is the third studio album by American punk rock band Pennywise, released on June 13, 1995. Although the album was not a commercial success, it is widely considered to be one of Pennywise's best releases, and it includes their concert staples "Peaceful Day", "Perfect People", "Every Single Day", and " Same Old Story". ''About Time'' was also the first Pennywise album to chart in Billboard; the release peaked at number 96. Most of the album follows the theme of problems with time: fear of it passing, controlling it and accepting it. ''AMP'' was an American music magazine founded in 2003, by Brett Matthews. It featured interviews, album and live reviews and band journals. Jason Thirsk
Jason Matthew Thirsk (December 25, 1967 – July 29, 1996) was the bass player of the California punk rock band Pennywise from 1988 through his death in 1996. He grew up in Hermosa Beach, California. Pennywise was formed in 1988 by Thirsk along with singer Jim Lindberg, guitarist Fletcher Dragge, and drummer Byron McMackin. Thirsk reportedly did not like to travel. Thirsk had been in rehabilitation for alcoholism and suffered from depression. Death and legacy At the age of 28, he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His girlfriend discovered his body approximately a day after his death. The band decided to continue making music after Thirsk's death, first by dedicating their performances to him at Warped Tour 1996. They later brought in bass guitarist Randy Bradbury from One Hit Wonder. The band then set about writing an album of new material which was made up of mostly anti- suicide messages.
