Froland is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Sørlandet. The administrative center is the village of Blakstad, which along with Osedalen form the main population center of the municipality. Other villages in Froland include Bøylefoss, Bøylestad, Froland, Frolands verk, Heldalsmo, Hinnebu, Hynnekleiv, Jomås, Lauvrak, Libru, Løvjomås, Mjåvatn, Mjølhus, Mykland, and Risdal. Froland Church
Froland Church ( no, Froland kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Froland Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Froland. It is one of the two churches for the Froland parish which is part of the Arendal prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1718 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 295 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the parish date back to the year 1399 and the earliest existing records of the church are from 1425 as the "Frodelands Sogn i Nidardal", however the church was likely founded during the late 13th or early 14th century (before the Black Death in Norway). By the beginning of the 1700s, the old church was quite dilapidated, so in 1704 there was a royal resolution that stipulated that the old church be torn down and replaced. Hynnekleiv
Hynnekleiv is a village in Froland municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located at the junction of the Norwegian National Road 41 and the Norwegian County Road 42. The Sørlandsbanen railway line runs through the village as well, but the railway station here was closed in 2003. Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag. Mykland (village)
Mykland is a rural village in northwestern Froland municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located along the Norwegian County Road 42 about northwest of the village of Blakstad and about southwest of the village of Åmli. The village is located in a hilly, forested area that is the site of many small rivers and lakes. The village of Mykland was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Mykland which existed from 1876 until 1967 when the municipality was merged into Froland. The village has a school, store, gas station, and Mykland Church. History In the summer of 2008, there was a major forest fire in the areas surrounding the village of Mykland. The fire was one of the worst forest fires of the last 150 years in Norway. Nearly of forest burned.
