Friday's Station
Friday's Station, on US 50 between Kingsbury Grade and Loop Road in Stateline, Nevada, is a two-story wood-frame white building built as a Pony Express station and inn in 1860. In 1986, it was known as Park Cattle Company Residence and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The two-story wood-frame white building is visible from U.S. Route 50 near the California-Nevada border at Stateline, Nevada. When built, it was also a Union Army military post of the District of California. During the 1870s through the 1880s it operated as a resort under the name "Buttermilk Bonanza Ranch." The listing included two contributing buildings: the second was a blacksmith shop and stable built in 1850 at the rear of the inn. and The nearest locale was called Smalls by 1891, but had changed its name to Tahoe Village by 1955. Stateline, Nevada
Stateline is a census-designated place (CDP) on the southeastern shore of Lake Tahoe in Douglas County, Nevada, United States. It lies next to the California state line and City of South Lake Tahoe. The population was 842 at the 2010 census. The population swells considerably during the busy winter and summer seasons, due to the high number of hotel rooms and rental accommodations available. Attractions Stateline is home to four casino resorts: Bally's Lake Tahoe (formerly Caesars and MontBleu), Harrah's Lake Tahoe, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe (formerly Horizon), and Harveys Lake Tahoe. Until its closure on April 14, 2020, the Lakeside Inn catered to locals and modest gamblers. Pony Express
The Pony Express was an American express mail service that used relays of horse-mounted riders. It operated from April 3, 1860, to October 26, 1861, between Missouri and California. It was operated by the Central Overland California and Pikes Peak Express Company. During its 18 months of operation, the Pony Express reduced the time for messages to travel between the east and west US coast to about 10 days. It became the west's most direct means of eastwest communication before the first transcontinental telegraph was established (October 24, 1861), and was vital for tying the new U.S. state of California with the rest of the United States. Despite a heavy subsidy, the Pony Express was not a financial success and went bankrupt in 18 months, when a faster telegraph service was established. The District of California was a Union Army command department formed during the American Civil War. The district was part of the Department of the Pacific, the commander of the department also being District commander. The district was created as a separate command on July 1, 1864, after Irvin McDowell took command of the Department of the Pacific, relieving General Wright, who then remained as District of California commander.
