The ''Golymin'' was a 74-gun ship of the line of the French Navy (of the ''Duquesne'' sub-class). Built in Lorient in 1804, she was launched in 1809. Wrecked on Mengam Rock in the roads of Brest on 23 March 1814,Troude, p. 181 she is the source of the ''Obusier de vaisseau'' currently on display in the Musée national de la Marine in Paris and in Brest.Obusier de 36, modèle 1787 ; Obusier de vaisseau, Mobilier de fouille du Golymin, 1814

Brest (; ) is a port city in the Finistère department, Brittany. A frigate () is a type of warship. In different eras, the roles and capabilities of ships classified as frigates have varied somewhat. The name frigate in the 17th to early 18th centuries was given to any full-rigged ship built for speed and maneuverability, intended to be used in scouting, escort and patrol roles. Allemand's escape from Lorient was an episode of the naval operations of the French Navy in 1812. A number of French, warships trapped in Lorient by the British blockade, managed to take to the sea under Zacharie Allemand and sail to Brest. British squadrons sailed in pursuit, but were unable to force the French fleet into action. Background By 1812, the Royal Navy enjoyed an overwhelming superiority over its French counterpart, which was mostly blockaded in its own ports. Amand Leduc ( Dunkirk, 11 August 1764Quintin, p.212 — Dunkirk, 18 March 1832Quintin, p.215) was a French sailor and Navy officer of the First French Empire. Career Born to a family of merchants, Leduc started sailing in the merchant navy on 4 April 1774 as a boy, on the fishing ship ''Thérèse'', of Nieuport. He served on a number of ships before enlisting on the privateer ''Maraudeur'' on 18 August 1778. ''Maraudeur'' took nine prizes, and Leduc was wounded at the hand during one of the battles. Obusier De Vaisseau
The ''obusier de vaisseau'' was a light piece of naval artillery with a large calibre mounted on French warships of the Age of Sail. Designed to fire explosive shells at a low velocity, they were an answer to the carronade in the close combat and anti-personnel role. However, their intended ammunition proved too dangerous for the crew, and the French navy phased them out at the beginning of the Empire in favour of the carronade. Accounts by British warships of the armament of captured French ships tend to describe them as carronades. However, when the description includes the remark that the weapon was brass, this suggests that it was an ''obusier''. Several of the guns were recovered from the wreck of the ''Golymin'' in the road of Brest, and are now on display at the Musée national de la Marine in Paris and in Brest.
