French Ivorians are those who were born in or reside in Ivory Coast, who descend from French community. There was a small but prominent French community in Ivory Coast until 2002, when a failed coup d'état and civil war led to anti-French riots. Of the 20,000 living in the country at the start of the conflict, by 2004 only 15,000 remained. Ivory Coast, also known as Côte d'Ivoire, officially the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, is a country on the southern coast of West Africa. Its capital is Yamoussoukro, in the centre of the country, while its largest city and economic centre is the port city of Abidjan. It borders Guinea to the northwest, Liberia to the west, Mali to the northwest, Burkina Faso to the northeast, Ghana to the east, and the Gulf of Guinea (Atlantic Ocean) to the south. First Ivorian Civil War
The First Ivorian Civil War was a civil conflict in the Ivory Coast (also known as Côte d'Ivoire) that began with a military rebellion on 19 September 2002 and ended with a peace agreement on 4 March 2007. The conflict pitted the government of Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo against a domestic insurgency led by the New Forces of Ivory Coast (''Forces nouvelles de Côte d'Ivoire''). 2004 French–Ivorian Clashes
In 2004, an armed conflict took place between French and Côte d'Ivoire forces. On 6 November 2004, two Ivorian Air force Su-25 attack fighters launched an air attack on French peacekeepers in the northern part of Côte d'Ivoire who were stationed there as part of ''Opération Licorne'' (Unicorn), the French military operation in support of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI). French military forces subsequently clashed with Ivorian troops and government-loyal mobs, almost destroying the entire Ivorian Air Force. Those incidents were followed by massive anti-French protests in Côte d'Ivoire. Dominique Claudine Ouattara née Nouvian (born 16 December 1953) is the current First Lady of Ivory Coast, married to List of heads of state of Ivory Coast, President Alassane Ouattara. Early life and education Dominique Claudine Nouvian was born on 16 December 1953 in Constantine, Algeria, Constantine Algeria. She is a Catholic of Jewish descent from her mother's side. The date of the first human presence in Ivory Coast (officially called Côte d'Ivoire) has been difficult to determine because human remains have not been well preserved in the country's humid climate.
