Kanthaugen Freestyle Arena
Kanthaugen Freestyle Arena ( no, Kanthaugen Freestyleanlegg) is a freestyle skiing stadium located in the hillside area of Kanthaugen in Lillehammer, Norway. Opened in 1992, it was built for the 1994 Winter Olympics. The venue consists of three hills—one each for aerials, moguls and ski ballet. The moguls hill has a capacity for 12,000 spectators while the other two have a 15,000-person capacity. The arena is designated as Norway's national venue for freestyle skiing. It hosted the FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup in 1993 and 1995, and is scheduled to host freestyle skiing and snowboarding at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics. The arena is owned by Lillehammer Olympiapark and is located adjacent to the ski jumping hill Lysgårdsbakken. Construction Kanthaugen has traditionally served as a recreational area for Lillehammer, and has in particular been used for alpine skiing. Janne Lahtela (born 28 February 1974) is a Finnish former athlete, who established himself as one of the most dominant persons in the history of moguls skiing. He is currently the head coach of Japan's freestyle skiing team. He also is a key founder and sponsor for the IDOne ski company based out of Japan. Lahtela was born in Kemijärvi. Trace Worthington (born November 28, 1969) is an American former freestyle skier. He competed in two events at the 1994 Winter Olympics. After retiring from the sport, Worthington became a sports commentator, working for both NBC Sports and CBS Sports. Biography Worthington was born in 1969 in Minneapolis, and began skiing at the age of two. His great-grandfather, Harry, competed in the men's long jump at the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm. After moving to Winter Park, Colorado, Worthington took part in his first freestyle skiing competition when he was 14 years old. In 1986, he was the World Junior Champion in the aerials, winning the US title the next year. From 1992 to 1995, Worthington was named the Freestyle Skier of the Year by ''Ski Racing'' magazine, and in 1993, he was also named the International Skier of the Year.
