"Freedom" is a song written and recorded by Paul McCartney in response to the September 11 attacks in 2001. McCartney was in New York City at the time of the attacks and witnessed the event while sitting in a plane parked on the tarmac at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. Background In February 2001, McCartney began recording his twelfth studio album, ''Driving Rain'', with a set of new musicians he intended to back him on a forthcoming tour, his first since The New World Tour in 1993. By September 2001, the album was finished and ready to be released that November, with the song "From a Lover to a Friend" chosen as the first single for a planned release in October. Rusty Anderson
Rusty Anderson is an American guitarist and singer-songwriter who is best known for his work as the lead guitarist for Paul McCartney's touring band though he has worked with an extensive list of artists in addition to his own solo career. Career Anderson became a professional musician at age 14 with his first band, Eulogy. Eulogy won a sizeable local following in Los Angeles, playing with bands such as The Police, Van Halen, The Runaways, Quiet Riot, Rick Derringer, Eddie Money and The Motels. Later, Anderson formed The Living Daylights, which shared the stage with Fishbone and OMD. The Living Daylights was a psychedelic/ progressive rock band and Anderson's first as primary songwriter. The 'US' Tour
The US Tour was Paul McCartney's second North American concert tour of the 21st century to promote his 2005's '' Chaos and Creation in the Backyard'' album. The tour began on 16 September 2005 in Miami, Florida and concluded on 30 November 2005 in Los Angeles, California. It was a commercial success grossing $77 million from 37 shows across North America and selling over 565,000 tickets.
