Frederick Carlton Lewis (born July 1, 1961) is an American former track and field athlete who won nine Olympic gold medals, one Olympic silver medal, and 10 World Championships medals, including eight gold. His career spanned from 1979 to 1996, when he last won an Olympic event. He is one of only six Olympic athletes who won a gold medal in the same individual event in four consecutive Olympic Games. Lewis was a dominant sprinter and long jumper who topped the world rankings in the 100 m, 200 m and long jump events frequently from 1981 to the early 1990s. Frederick Lewis, 1st Baron Essendon
Frederick Lewis, 1st Baron Essendon (1870–1944), known as Sir Frederick Lewis, Bt, between 1918 and 1932, was a British shipping magnate. Biography Frederick Lewis was born in 1870 in Witton Park. In 1883, aged 13, he joined Furness Withy & Co, a major shipping company based in Hartlepool. By 1919 he had risen to be a Director of the Company and in that year he led a consortium that took ownership of the business. In 1932 he became Chairman of Royal Mail Lines, which was created from the assets of the collapsed Royal Mail Steam Packet Company after the Royal Mail Case. Lewis was created a Baronet in 1918 and raised to the peerage as Baron Essendon, ''of Essendon in the County of Hertford'', on 20 June 1932. He was instrumental in developing a system of sea water distillers which could produce fresh water in lifeboats during an emergency at sea. He died in 1944. Sir Frederick Orr Orr-Lewis, 1st Baronet (11 February 1860 – 18 November 1921) was a Canadian businessman. Orr-Lewis (he used both names as a surname, sometimes hyphenated) was born in Hamilton, Canada West, and raised in Montreal, Canada East. He was the son of William Thomas Lewis, a Welsh immigrant. He joined his father's business, Lewis Brothers, and eventually became president. He was also instrumental in setting up and became president of Canadian Vickers Ltd, the Canadian arm of the British shipbuilding and armaments giant, Vickers. Many Royal Navy ships were built in the company's Canadian yards during the First World War, and for this, in the 1920 New Year Honours, Orr-Lewis was created a baronet. He is the cousin of former Major League outfielder Matt Lawton. He lived in Chatham, New Jersey for a brief time before moving to Toronto. High school and college Lewis graduated from Stone High School in Wiggins, Mississippi in 1999, where he was a three sport star in basketball, football, and baseball. Frederick L. Lewis (born July 1, 1943) is a retired American basketball player. He played professionally in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and American Basketball Association (ABA). He is the only player to start his career in the NBA, and play all 9 full ABA seasons (1967-1976) until the NBA/ABA merger, then sign back with the NBA. Born in Huntington, West Virginia, Lewis was a fundamentally sound 6'0" (1.83 m) guard who could pass, shoot, and defend equally well. Fred Lewis (born 1947) is an American former handball player. Lewis is Jewish, and was born in The Bronx, New York. Both of his parents played handball, and he learned to play the game outdoors in the Bronx. He initially played one-wall handball, and entered his first tournament at the age of eight. He competed on his high school swimming team. He received a master's degree in education at the University of Miami in 1972. He won two U.S. National Collegiate Singles Championships. Lewis is a six-time U.S. Handball Association National Four-Wall Handball Singles Champion (1972, 1974–76, 1978, and 1981).
