''Brothers of Italy'' () is a 1952 Italian biographical war film directed by Fausto Saraceni and starring Ettore Manni, Paul Muller and Olga Solbelli. It depicts real life events of Austrian-born Italian irredentist and sailor Nazario Sauro. The film's sets were designed by the art director Piero Filippone. Nazario Sauro
Nazario Sauro (20 September 1880 – 10 August 1916) was an Austrian-born Italian irredentist and sailor. Life Born in Capodistria, in what was then the Austrian Littoral (today Koper, Slovenia), he took to sailing from a very young age and became the captain of a cargo ship when he was only 20. Later, in 1910, Sauro became an employee of the shipping company ''Zuttiati'', connecting ports in Istria and Dalmatia to San Giorgio di Nogaro and Cervignano del Friuli. After 1866, when Venice and the region consisting of the Republic of Venice were annexed to Italy, there was some support in Istria, which had been under Venetian rule in the past, for unification with Italy. Tino Gavardo, Pio Riego Gambini and Nazario Sauro were the most renowned of those who promoted Istrian unification to the Kingdom of Italy. Riccardo Garrone (1 November 1926 – 14 March 2016) was an Italian actor and dubber. Biography Garrone began his acting career in 1949 and attended the Accademia Nazionale di Arte Drammatica Silvio D'Amico, Silvio d'Amico National Academy of Dramatic Arts. He appeared in more than 140 films from 1949 until his retirement in 2014. He made his debut in the film ''Adam and Eve (1949 film), Adam and Eve'' directed by Mario Mattoli. He also worked in several theatre productions alongside other actors such as Vittorio Gassman, Diana Torrieri and Elena Zareschi. Marc Lawrence (born Max Goldsmith; February 17, 1910 – November 28, 2005) was an American character actor who specialized in underworld types. He has also been credited as F. A. Foss, Marc Laurence and Marc C. Lawrence. Early life Lawrence was born in New York City, the son of a Polish Jewish mother, Minerva Norma (née Sugarman), and a Russian Jewish father, Israel Simon Goldsmith. He participated in plays in school, then attended the City College of New York. In 1930, he received a two-year scholarship to the repertory theater operated by Eva Le Gallienne. Career Lawrence's film debut came in 1933. Born in Rome, son of director Marino Girolami and brother of director Enzo G. Castellari, Girolami made his film debut at 18 with a role of weight in '' Fratelli d'Italia'' by Fausto Saraceni.
