François De Vendôme, Count Of Enghien
François de Bourbon, Count of Enghien (23 September 1519 – 23 February 1546) was a French '' prince du sang'' from the House of Bourbon-Vendôme, a cadet branch of the House of Bourbon (itself a cadet branch of the Capetian dynasty). He was the son of Charles de Bourbon, Duke of Vendôme and Françoise d'Alençon. Given command of the French army in Italy by Francis I of France during the Italian War of 1542, he was the French commander at the successful Franco-Ottoman Siege of Nice in 1543, and he led it to victory at the Battle of Ceresole in a year later in 1544. His early death at the age of 26 was caused by an accident – specifically by the falling of a heavy chest – in the castle La Roche-Guyon. Battle Of Ceresole
The Battle of Ceresole (; also Cérisoles) took place on 11 April 1544, during the Italian War of 1542–1546, outside the village of Ceresole d'Alba in the Piedmont region of Italy. A French army, commanded by François de Bourbon, Count of Enghien, defeated the combined forces of the Holy Roman Empire and Spain, commanded by Alfonso d'Avalos d'Aquino, Marquis del Vasto. Despite having inflicted substantial casualties on the Imperial troops, the French subsequently failed to exploit their victory by taking Milan. Enghien and d'Avalos had arranged their armies along two parallel ridges; because of the topography of the battlefield, many of the individual actions of the battle were uncoordinated. The battle opened with several hours of skirmishing between opposing bands of arquebusiers and an ineffectual artillery exchange, after which d'Avalos ordered a general advance. Jean de Bourbon, Count of Soissons and Enghien (6 July 1528 or 1526 – 10 or 15 August 1557) was a French '' prince du sang'' from the House of Bourbon-Vendome, a cadet branch of the House of Bourbon (itself a cadet branch of the Capetian dynasty). Biography John (Jean) de Bourbon was born at La Fere as the fourth son of Charles, Duke of Vendome and his wife Francoise d'Alencon. He became Count of Enghien after the accidental death of his elder brother Francis in 1546. On 14 June 1557, he married Mary of Bourbon, the daughter of Francis, Duke of Estouteville. His marriage with Mary produced no children. Military career During King Henry II's intervention in the War of Parma in 1551, John was sent, along with his brother Louis, to Piedmont with reinforcements to strengthen the French army.
