François Dominique De Barberie De Saint-Contest
François Dominique de Barberie de Saint-Contest (26 June 1701 – 14 July 1754) was a French Foreign Minister. Born into an old Norman family that had helped keep the city of Caen allied to Louis XIII, in 1620, François-Dominique, son of Councilor of State-Claude Dominique Barberie de Saint Contest was named King's attorney at the Chatelet in Paris, 27 November 1721, and advisor to Parliament (1724), master of requests, advisor to the Hotel de Ville (1728), steward of Beam (1737), Caen (1739) and Dijon, from 1740 to 1749. In the 1720s he was a member of the Club de l'Entresol, an early modern think tank, together with his father. On 15 July 1749, he was appointed as Ambassador of France in Switzerland, and like Champeaux, resident in France to Geneva, Switzerland to discuss the contentious issues relating to the territories located in Geneva Gex. François Dominique de Reynaud, Comte de Montlosier (April 16, 1755 in Clermont-Ferrand – December 9, 1838), was a notable French politician and political writer during the First French Empire, Bourbon Restoration and July Monarchy. He was the youngest of a large family belonging to the poorer nobility. Political activity He was elected as a stand-in diplomat from the nobility of bailiwick of Clermont-Ferrand to the Estates-General, where he was a member from September 1789. He defended the French monarchy with obstinacy and talent and helped edit the French newspaper '' Les Actes des Apôtres''. In September 1791, after the dissolution of the Assembly, Montlosier fled to Germany where he tried to join the counter-revolutionary Army of Condé at Coblenz. François Dominique (writer)
François Dominique, born in Paris, on 21 July 1943, is a French writer and translator. He taught law and political science at the University of Burgundy. Under the name Dominique Gros, he published ''Le droit antisémite de Vichy'', ''La pauvreté saisie par le droit'', ''Le droit de résistance à l’oppression'' in ''Le Genre Humain'', Seuil Publisher. In 1987, together with Jean-Michel Rabate, he founded the publishing house Ulysses-Fin-de-Siècle which became Virgile Publisher in 2002. With Serge Gavronsky he translated Louis Zukofsky’s « A » into French, of which five volumes, including 23 sections of this long poem, have been published by Virgile, 1994 - 2015. Louis Zukofsky
Louis Zukofsky (January 23, 1904 – May 12, 1978) was an American poet. He was the primary instigator and theorist of the so-called "Objectivist" poets, a short lived collective of poets who after several decades of obscurity would reemerge around 1960 and become a significant influence on subsequent generations of poets in America and abroad. Life Louis Zukofsky was born in New York City's Lower East Side to Yiddish speaking immigrants from Lithuania, then part of the Russian Empire. His father Pinchos (ca. 1860–1950) immigrated to the United States in 1898, and was followed in 1903 by his wife, Chana (1862–1927), and their three children. Pinchos worked as a pants-presser and night watchman for many decades in New York's garment district. The only one of his siblings born in the United States, Louis Zukofsky was a precocious student in the local public school system. François Dominique Barreau De Chefdeville
François Dominique Barreau de Chefdeville (1725 – 29 June 1765) was a French architect. Life From a good middle-class Paris family, Bareau de Chefdeville studied architecture under Germain Boffrand and one first prize in the 1749 Prix de Rome for a "temple of peace, isolated, in the style of antique temples". He stayed in Rome from October 1751 to August 1753, at the same time as Pierre-Louis Moreau-Desproux, Pierre-Louis Helin, Marie-Joseph Peyre and Charles De Wailly, and from there visited Naples with the sculptor Augustin Pajou and the rest of Italy with the painter Silvestre le fils. Returning to Paris, he got to know Ange Laurent Lalive de Jully (1725-1779), announcer of ambassadors and close to Madame de Pompadour. Pompadour wished to return to forms inspired by the antique and thus to renew the grand style of the reign of Louis XIV of France, in reaction against rococo.
