Caguas (, ) is a city and municipality of Puerto Rico located in the Central Mountain Range of Puerto Rico, south of San Juan and Trujillo Alto, west of Gurabo and San Lorenzo, and east of Aguas Buenas, Cidra, and Cayey. Cruz was world lightweight champion from 1968 to 1969. Amateur career Cruz claimed he didn't put on his first pair of boxing gloves until his 20th birthday. He fought as an amateur from 1957 to 1959, posting a 14–3 record. Personal Cruz's father, Francisco Rosario Almonte was an army officer in the Dominican military. Cruz met his wife, Mildred Ortiz in the town of Río Piedras in Puerto Rico. They were married in 1961 when Ortiz was 24 years old. Cruz had two children. Erubey ''Chango'' Carmona is a Mexican former professional boxer who won the WBC lightweight title in 1972. Carmona is believed to be the boxer who began the tradition of having a big fight on the Mexico Independence Day holiday weekend when he stopped Mando Ramos in the eighth round to win the lightweight title in Los Angeles on Sept. 15, 1972. Chango lost a combined 4 fights to two fighters. He lost to Arturo Morales in back to back fights in 1965 and 1966, and he lost to Alfredo ''El Canelo'' Urbina back to back in 1967. He lost the WBC Lightweight title to Rodolfo González in 1972 at the Sports arena in Los Angeles. Carmona held two titles the Mexican lightweight title, and the WBC lightweight title. Pedro Adigue Jr. (November 16, 1943 – November 20, 2003) was a world champion boxer. He came from the small town of Bontod in Palanas, Masbate, the Philippines. Early life Pedro was born on November 16, 1943 in Bontod, Masbate, Philippines. Professional career Adigue became a professional boxer on February 18, 1962. After 14 bouts (11 wins, 1 loss and 2 draws), he fought Carl Peñalosa for the Philippine lightweight title but lost on points. Adigue challenged Peñalosa again for the same title on August 2, 1965 but this time won by knockout in the 7th round. He defended his crown once with a decision win over Rudy Perucho June 10, 1966. He then won the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) lightweight title on September 30, 1966 and has defended it five times. He then won the vacant WBC light welterweight championship in 1968 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippines, when he defeated Adolph Pruitt. Ismael Laguna Meneses (born June 28, 1943, in Colón, Panama) is a former professional boxer. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2001. Professional career Known as "El Tigre Colonense", Laguna was the World Lightweight Champion in 1965 and later regained the belt in 1970, but he was stripped of his WBC title prior to losing the WBA Title to Ken Buchanan. Laguna also lost 15 round decisions in two other bids to regain his lightweight title, in 1967 against Carlos Ortiz, and in 1971 to Ken Buchanan. He retired after the loss to Buchanan in 1971.
