Frank Whitehouse
Frank Whitehouse (June 1876 – before 1960) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Burslem Port Vale, Glossop and Stoke. Career Whitehouse played for Bucknall, before joining Burslem Port Vale in June 1899. He bagged a brace on his (known) debut, playing outside-right in a 5–0 win over West Bromwich Albion at the Athletic Ground on 11 December 1899, in a first round Birmingham Senior Cup match. He played 19 Second Division matches for Vale, scoring once in a 2–1 defeat to Small Heath at Muntz Street. He signed for Stoke in May 1900 and spent his first two seasons at the Victoria Ground in the reserves before becoming a regular in the 1902–03 season, where he scored nine goals. He scored the same amount in the 1903–04 campaign, and hit a hat-trick in a 3–2 Boxing day win over Bolton Wanderers at Burnden Park. Newcastle-under-Lyme ( RP: , ) is a market town and the administrative centre of the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire, England. The 2011 census population of the town was 75,082, whilst the wider borough had a population of 128,264 in 2016, up from 123,800 in the 2011 Census. Bolton (, locally ) is a large town in Greater Manchester in North West England, formerly a part of Lancashire. A former mill town, Bolton has been a production centre for textiles since Flemish weavers settled in the area in the 14th century, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition. The urbanisation and development of the town largely coincided with the introduction of textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution. The 1905–06 season was the 35th season of competitive football in England. Events Following the increase in size of the Football League from 36 clubs to 40, and with Doncaster Rovers having been relegated from the Second Division, four new clubs were elected into the league, along with Stockport County who had won the Lancashire Combination. These new clubs were: Chelsea, Hull City, Leeds City and Clapton Orient. Crystal Palace were formed this year but failed to gain election to the Football League by one vote and instead started their existence in the Southern League. Bristol City, the only non-London League side south of Birmingham at the time, is promoted to the First Division as champions. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. After the creation of the Premier League, the name First Division was given to the second-tier division (from 1992). The name ceased to exist after the 2003–04 First Division season. Staffordshire Senior Cup
The Staffordshire Senior Challenge Cup is a football cup tournament based in the county of Staffordshire in England first competed for in 1877–78. Organised by the Staffordshire Football Association, it is competed for by a mix of clubs from Staffordshire and the surrounding areas. Both professional and amateur clubs may enter. In the modern age however professional teams such as Stoke City and Port Vale, the main clubs in Staffordshire, usually field a reserve team as they place more prestige on their respective leagues and professional cup competitions. This has left the door open for non-league sides to have more success in the cup as it is classed as a bigger achievement for them to win it. In recent years the entries from clubs from neighbouring counties have virtually been phased out.
