Frank Russell, Baron Russell Of Killowen
Francis Xavier Joseph Russell, Baron Russell of Killowen, PC, known as Frank Russell (2 July 1867 – 20 December 1946) was a British judge. Early life and career at the bar The fourth son of Charles Russell, Baron Russell of Killowen, the Lord Chief Justice of England, and of Ellen Mulholland, Russell was educated at Beaumont College and Oriel College, Oxford, where he gained a First in Jurisprudence in 1890. He was active in the Oxford Union, and in 1887 made a speech in favour of Home Rule that led A. V. Dicey, an opponent of Home Rule, to write a letter of congratulations to his father. He was called to the bar by Lincoln's Inn in 1893. He practised at the Chancery bar in the chambers of Mr Justice Joyce. In 1908 he was appointed King's Counsel. His practice was very successful, and in 1918 he became one of the 'specials' at the Chancery bar, i.e. a barrister who charged a £50 extra fee for any court appearance. John Francis Stanley Russell, 2nd Earl Russell, known as Frank Russell (12 August 18653 March 1931), was a British nobleman, barrister and politician, the elder brother of the philosopher Bertrand Russell, and the grandson of John Russell, 1st Earl Russell, who was twice prime minister of Britain. The elder son of Viscount and Viscountess Amberley, Russell became well-known for his marital woes, and was convicted of bigamy before the House of Lords in 1901, the last peer to be convicted of an offence in a trial by the Lords before that privilege of peerage was abolished in 1948. Russell was raised by his paternal grandparents after his unconventional parents both died young. He was discontented living with his grandparents, but enjoyed four happy years at Winchester College. Frank Henry Russell (July 17, 1878 – August 4, 1947) was an American aviation pioneer and the first General Manager of the Wright Brothers Company at Dayton, Ohio. He went on to co-found the Burgess Company and the Manufacturers Aircraft Association. He was the Vice President and a director of Curtiss Aeroplane & Motor Company and a director of Curtiss-Wright Corporation. Biography Russell was born on July 17, 1878 in Mansfield, Ohio, to Reverend Frank Russell, Congregationalist minister and descendant of Reverend Noadiah Russell, and Aurelia Squire Henry Russell. He was a nephew of Russell Alexander Alger and Avra P. Russell. He was graduated from Yale in 1900, and married Marietta Ford on December 31, 1902. Frank B. Russell (August 26, 1868 – November 7, 1903) was an American anthropologist and ethnologist. Russell was Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Elizabeth Carleton and David Chandler Russell. He attended the University of Iowa, receiving the degree of Bachelor of Science in 1892 and Master of Science in 1895. He then attended Harvard University where he received Bachelor of Arts in 1896, Master of Arts in 1897 and Doctor of Philosophy in 1898. Previous to this collegiate course he had spent two and a half years as explorer alone in the far north of Canada and one year as a portrait painter. His first position as teacher was that of assistant in zoology at the University of Iowa in 1892. At Harvard he taught as assistant in anthropology from 1896 to 1897, and in 1897 was made instructor in anthropology. Frank Russell (April 17, 1949 – September 6, 2021) was an American professional basketball player who played one season in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Chicago Bulls during the 1972–73 season. Biography A shooting guard, Russell attended the University of Detroit Mercy where he was drafted by the Bulls in the third round of the 1972 NBA draft by the Bulls. His two brothers, Campy and Walker Russell also played in the NBA. After basketball, Russell attended law school at Texas Southern University before returning to Michigan where he worked in his community for the rest of his active life. Russell died of COVID-19 pneumonia in Pontiac, Michigan Pontiac ( ') is a city in and the county seat of Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. Frank Ford Russell
Frank Ford Russell (1904-1969) was the son of Frank Henry Russell. He was an intercollegiate wrestling champion for Yale University and was elected captain of its wrestling team in 1924. He was posthumously inducted into the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Hall of Fame. Russell also rowed with the famed Yale Eight crew that won the 1924 Olympics (see Rowing at the Olympics,) although his wrestling schedule ultimately forestalled participation in the Olympic campaign. He was a member of the Skull and Bones Society. He was graduated from Yale in 1926 and after a short stint on Wall Street, entered the aviation business, avoiding work with any company associated with his father to avoid presumptions of nepotism. By the end of the 1930s, he was President of National Aviation Corporation.
