Francis Xavier Burke (September 29, 1918 – September 6, 1988) was a United States Army officer and a recipient of the United States military's highest decoration—the Medal of Honor—for his actions in World War II. Biography Francis Xavier "Frank" Burke entered active duty in the U.S. Army from the New Jersey National Guard in Jersey City, New Jersey, and by April 17, 1945, was the Transportation Officer, as a first lieutenant, in D Company, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. On that day, in Nuremberg, Germany, he repeatedly engaged German forces alone during the fight to capture the city. Frank Burke (Australian Politician)
Francis Michael Burke (27 March 1876 – 17 August 1949) was an Australian politician. Born at Tamworth to police officer Michael Burke (who would serve in the New South Wales Parliament from 1885 to 1887) and Catherine Agnes, ''née'' Leahy, he attended Crown Street Public School. After leaving school he held a variety of jobs including storeman, hotel manager and assistant on the staff of the ''Evening News''. In 1901 he married Ada May Frazer, with whom he had five children. He worked on the tramways until he was dismissed after involvement in a union-led 1908 strike; he formed a small business and from 1914 to 1918 worked as an inspector for the New South Wales Commodities Commission and the Commonwealth Price Commission. He also worked as a staff member for Clive Evatt, and was president of the Newtown branch of the Labor Party. Frank Burke (hurler)
Frank Burke (born 1952) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a centre-forward for the Galway senior team. Born in Turloughmore, County Galway, Burke first played competitive hurling at school at Presentation College, Athenry. He made his first impression on the inter-county scene when he joined the Galway under-21 team. He made his senior debut during the 1973 championship. Burke went on to play a key role for Galway for a decade, and won one All-Ireland medal and one National Hurling League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on four occasions. As a member of the Connacht inter-provincial team at various times throughout his career, Burke won one Railway Cup medal. At club level he is a one-time Connacht medallist with Turloughmore. James Francis Burke (8 April 1895 – 28 December 1987) was an Irish hurler, Gaelic footballer and revolutionary. His championship career as a dual player with the Dublin senior teams spanned ten years from 1917 until 1927. Born in Carbury, County Kildare, Burke was educated locally before later boarding at St. Enda's School in Dublin. Under the influence of Patrick Pearse he joined the Irish Republican Brotherhood and was a founder-member of the Irish Volunteers in 1913. During the 1916 Easter Rising Burke was stationed in the General Post Office before later manning a barricade on Moore Street. His sister, Aoife de Búrca was a nurse in the GPO while he was there. After a period of internment in Stafford and Frongoch he returned to Dublin where took over as headmaster of St. Enda's School. Frankie Burke (June 6, 1915 – April 7, 1983) was a Hollywood actor, best known for his appearance as a member of The East Side Kids. Early life Burke was born Frankie Vaselle and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. His name was changed when he began working in films. Burke went to P.S. 25 on Lafayette and Throop streets before going on to Alexander Hamilton (vocation) High School, now known as ''Paul Robeson HS'', at 150 Albany Avenue. He grew up watching James Cagney on film in local theaters and, having been told many times how much he resembled him, figured if Cagney could become famous, so could he. Burke sold newspapers on the street corners before deciding to hitchhike to Hollywood in 1937 to meet Cagney, but when the first attempt failed, he went back to Brooklyn.
