Francisco Pineda (footballer, Born 1959)
Francisco Pineda García (born 31 January 1959) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a forward. Football career Born in Málaga, Andalusia, Pineda started playing professionally at La Liga giants Real Madrid. He appeared relatively for the capital club during his five-year spell but, following the signing of Argentine Jorge Valdano and the emergence of youth product Emilio Butragueño, was deemed surplus to requirements – the team also did not win one single national championship in that timeframe – leaving in the 1985 summer. Pineda subsequently signed for Real Zaragoza, winning the Copa del Rey in his debut season while adding seven goals in the league for the fourth-placed side. From 1988 onwards, however, he suffered greatly with injuries, hardly getting a game at the Aragonese and his following club, hometown's CD Málaga; he retired at the age of 31, immediately after his team's top flight relegation. The Campeonato de España–Copa de Su Majestad el Rey, commonly known as Copa del Rey or simply La Copa and formerly known as Copa del Presidente de la República (1932–36) and Copa del Generalísimo (1939–76), is an annual knockout football competition in Spanish football, organized by the Royal Spanish Football Federation. The Copa de la Liga (League Cup in Spanish) was a Spanish football tournament created in 1982. Due to time constraints, saturation and club pressure, the competition only lasted four years, being cancelled in 1986. Winning the trophy helped two clubs to complete cup doubles: FC Barcelona with the Copa del Rey (1983) and Real Madrid with the UEFA Cup (1985). In all four finals, the team that played the second leg at home won the trophy. Format The League Cup was a straight knock-out competition. All ties were played over two legs, home and away, with the team with the largest aggregate score progressing. The final also consisted of two games. If the aggregate score was tied after two legs of ninety minutes each, extra-time would be played. If that failed to separate the teams, a penalty shootout would determine the winner.
