Francisco is the fifth largest town and seventh largest community in Gibson County, Indiana, United States. A town in Center Township, the population was 469 at the 2010 census and was founded in 1851. Local tradition says the town was named for its first settler, a Spanish laborer working on the Wabash and Erie Canal who built a shack in the area. It is part of the Evansville, Indiana, Metropolitan Area. Geography Francisco is located at (38.333360, -87.447314). According to the 2010 census, Francisco has a total area of , all land. Francisco is an 'L' station on the CTA's Brown Line. It is an at-grade station with a single island platform, located in Chicago's Ravenswood Manor neighborhood at 4649 North Francisco Avenue. The adjacent stations are Kedzie, which is about one third of a mile (0.536 km) to the west, and Rockwell, located across the Chicago River about three eighths of a mile (0.6 km) to the east. Francisco (slave)
Francisco (died 28 April 1876) was the last person to be executed in Brazil. An enslaved person, he was hanged for the murder of his masters. In 1874, Francisco and two other slaves, Prudencio and Vicente, were arrested for having beat to death their masters, João Evangelista de Lima and his wife Josepha Marta de Lima. The act was committed in Pilar, Alagoas. Francisco and Prudencio fled to Pesqueira; in a confrontation with police, Prudencio was killed and Francisco was captured. Vicente had fled to Marechal Deodoro, where he was captured. At Francisco and Vicente's trial, they were both found guilty of the murders. Francisco was sentenced to death by hanging and Vicente was sentenced to life imprisonment.
